Thank you for sharing your build Justin. I can only envy the plot of land you have. I am stuck in a tiny back garden with a cobweb antenna (folded dipole) Great to see that this antenna works well for you on 80m Happy DX 73
Excellent work. I used a horizontal loop about 260' square, as I recall, and it worked remarkably well for in state (Alaska) QSos. I used it to work CW with my wife when I would go out on fly in hunts to Kodiak or Montague Island. We both had loops and copy was always solid even though she was running 5W and I was running 1.5W. She always had the strongest signal on the band.
Yo Justin, good stuiff! Shame we couldnt compare while 4SQing in UK :) Anyway, hope to build one soon back here in OK Land... Jiri M0ITY (G0KPW/M6T Team). Very good work, I like the setup and fact you made the collins unit yourself.
Congrats for the 4SQ on 80m. I had my 4SQ up and running 1980 - 1984, with 8 directions. Highest F/B is at low takeoff angles. Best difference is ar 135° from front element, some 40.dB or so. Extend the feed point of the vertical s to 1m up, so the radials slope down to ground offers some 1.5 dB better performance on long haul dx. In direction NW & NE, extend the radials to › 80m gives you an honest 6 dB better signal into W7 & W6. Try 8 directions (K3LC-version), and you will be amazed about the behaviour. Very nice and thought out. This is the "next" project, hope I can get the 4sq up before winter here in TF ... I'm always happy when I don't hear a G/GM as well as some other TF's on my vertical - then I know it's working for DX ;)
