I spent the night inside St Botolph’s Church in Limpenhoe, Norfolk, trying something called champing — which is basically camping inside a historic church.

You sleep inside the church itself, surrounded by centuries of history and complete countryside silence. It’s definitely one of the most unusual overnight experiences I’ve ever tried.

St Botolph’s is a small medieval church that dates back around 800 years, sitting in the quiet village of Limpenhoe near the Norfolk Broads.

In this video I show what it’s actually like to spend the night inside a church — from setting up for the evening to waking up in a place that’s been standing since the Middle Ages.

I'm amazed at all the old churches in England that go back so many centuries. Nothing like that here in the US.

I didn’t know that in England there is a possibility to stay overnight in a church 🏰⛪. I think this is such a beautiful and meaningful idea, especially in these difficult times 🌍💫. Everyone needs a place of refuge and peace 🤍🙏, and churches have always been a safe haven for people in need.

I really really love this idea! We have some wonderful historic Churches that are a very important part of our cultural history that must be kept alive. I will be using this service as I always feel so peaceful when I'm in a Church and have wanted to do this for years! Thanks for showing us this! 🥰

Thankyou for your lovely videos on our beautiful old English churches etc. very,very interesting. We had to leave England 35yrs ago when the bank repossessed in 1991, we're now in Cyprus from Hastings & miss the beautiful old country churches. I'm 82yrs old now, & was a builder, restoration worker on lots of old barns etc. so thanks again for allowing us to see our old country, thanks for caring about our heritage, god bless you 🙏

Am an expat that now lives in the US. I miss, terribly the ecclesiastical history of the UK. Before I left the UK I used to distance cycle and have stayed in some fantastic churches well before they kitted them out for overnight rental use. Some good memories❤️🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

That was so cool! Spending the night in a church like St. Botolph's looked like a very spiritual experience. And I think it's great your husband went with you. Not a good idea to go alone. Having a kitchen and bathroom would definitely inspire more people to 'champ out.' Please do another one if you can. Wonderful presentation, thank you so much for making this video and sharing it!

I really enjoyed your overnight stay at St Botoloph's church in Norfolk. Such a peaceful atmosphere and not spooky at all. Just the right atmosphere for a family stay. I have never heard of champing before, it sounds like a good way of raising money for the church. Thank you!

The church looked and seemed very peaceful. As I have said before I really appreciate the respect and kindness you demonstrate while you are on these beautiful sites. It is a wonderful thing for you to help them reach their goals to put a new roof on the church and build a small kitchen and bathroom. I would imagine that this church has a lot of traffic and visitors and the residual energy from past people or events is not as strong because of that. I have found that the places that had the least amount of sightseeing and traffic often had the strongest energy. I loved the video and look forward to you champing again in the future. Looking forward to your next adventure from Oklahoma.
