Theyāre doing a brilliant job portraying him as psychologically unstable and emotionally abusive towards Daeron. Thatās exactly how abusive people often behave. They lash out, then almost immediately apologise, keeping the other person desperate for their approval, convinced they still love them, while also making them afraid of them.
Heās a really fascinating character. To me, heās a great example of how an adaptation can significantly change a character for the better, making the story more compelling without betraying the spirit of the source material.
