Just here at home after a long week of work and being an adult,.. found this video with all the great content,, makes me really emotional thinking of all the great times I had as a kid in the 90s. To all of the 80s/90s kids in the comment section, a big high five and a hug,, because I know some of us could use that nowadays 😔

I was 16 in 1996 😢 and still can't process or accept how time flew by with all the crazy change that happened in this world 😭

Watching this video made me incredibly happy, but very homesick! I miss the nineties! 1978 was when i was born and lived all my teenage years during this amazing era

As the years go by I feel like I'm drifting further and further away from home. More and more I feel like I'm in a world that belongs to someone else, to the young people of today, and I can only look in the rearview mirror from time to time as my world shrinks from view.

I really miss my school days in the 1990s, the wonderful youth of the 2000s. The older I get, the more I want to go back.

Esa es la epoca donde por mi parte hubiera pausado el tiempo. Gracias por este video. Nací en 1978 y mi adolescencia mas magica la tuve y la recuerdo con estas imagenes. Abrazo desde Argentina!

Was born in 1996 but alot of the early 2000s I remember growing up in had alot of the 90s bled into it. Every single aspect of this video brings me back. Maybe it was living in a rural town being behind on times but I remember every single thing shown in this video. Btw Super Mario 64 still holds up I am replaying it right now still an amazing game

Ohhh, guys. I’ve been reading your comments under this video, and I wanted to share something about the way I experience this whole vibe. I think a lot of people my age from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe probably feel something similar.
I was born and raised in Russia. In the 1990s, life across the former Soviet Union was, to put it mildly, difficult. And at the same time, we were all watching American movies and TV shows about high school — and to us, it looked like some kind of fairy tale.
Teenagers living in beautiful houses, driving themselves to school at fifteen or sixteen, and the school itself looking better than the city hall in a small town. It gave us mixed feelings. On the one hand, we really wanted to believe that somewhere in the world, life was actually like that. On the other hand, all you had to do was look around, and it became almost impossible to believe.
Because it had to be a fairy tale. Only in a fairy tale could everything be that beautiful, colorful, fun, and carefree.
The reality around us was pretty bleak — although, of course, you only fully understand just how bleak it was in retrospect.
And looking back on it now, as an adult, I’ve realized something else. Mainstream American movies and TV shows about school obviously idealized reality, but they still seem to have captured many real details fairly accurately — the atmosphere, the interiors, everyday life, clothes, cars, even what the schools themselves were like. After all, it’s hard to spend decades selling your own population a completely fictional world that has absolutely nothing in common with the reality around them.
Our on-screen reality at the time was very different. Our movies and TV shows were about cops, gangsters, crime, and the so-called “New Russians” — a term used in the 1990s for people who became rich very quickly. Some of them later became billionaires.
If you ever want to get a feel for our atmosphere from those years, try finding subtitled versions of Alexei Balabanov’s films: Brother, Brother 2, The Stoker, and War. As for TV shows, try Gangster Petersburg and Brigada.
So what am I getting at?
I find it both funny and a little sad to read your comments. You look at these scenes and want to go back to your own past. We look at them and want to go back not so much to our own past, but to the television screens we were watching back then.
Because our past, when you look back at it now, was pretty frightening. And the present, as it turns out, hasn’t exactly become peaceful either. Back then there was poverty, crisis, and war. Now it turns out that none of those things ever really disappeared. The future feels uncertain.
But that fairy tale on the television screen is still beautiful.
Maybe that’s why, for you, this is nostalgia for your own youth, while for us it is nostalgia for someone else’s youth — a youth we once saw on screen and dreamed of making our own, even if only for a little while.
So I sincerely congratulate you, guys. Maybe you didn’t realize it back then, but from where many of us were standing, it looked like you were living in the best world available to us.
And there’s a funny paradox in that: in a way, we grew up in America too.
Just in an America that never really existed.
P.S. By talking about the problems of our past and present, I absolutely don’t mean to dismiss or forget the fact that there have always been — and unfortunately still are — places in this world where people have it far worse. I sincerely hope that one day this will change.

I don't miss the 90s. I miss when the world wasn't in a constant state of nonstop terror after 9/11, I miss when people met up in real life in the real world, I miss when we interacted with each other instead of staring at our phones all the time, I miss the feeling that we could become what we wanted and own a home and have a family when we grew up without it feeling like that's only afforded to the very well off, I miss the feeling of freedom of leaving our homes and having the day to play and have fun, I miss when the world felt big, I miss when my family wasn't scattered all over, I miss when my friends were just a few doors down and wanted to hang out almost every day, but most of all I miss... feeling
