Back in 2000 at the Black Sheep Gathering I attended in Eugene, Oregon, someone was demonstrating these and at that time the antiques were a challenge to find but people were still able to acquire them. I could have bought one for about $200, which I didn't have at the time! :( They explained that when they were first given out in exchange for donating socks to soldiers, people often got frustrated and abandoned them in the attic, etc. This was WWI era. By the time WWII came about, many were recycled during metal drives, making them quite rare to find in our era. Maybe I'll someday have a 3d printed one, but what a treat to have an antique one. Just listen to that one hum along!
Excellent timing. I found this last night and got my beautiful used bumblebee today💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻. The cast on bonnet was snapping loops as I was going around🤣. I remembered this, went to my video history and ba bammm I’m off to make a bonnet using the star cast on. Thank you for all your wonderful videos Jamie, I owe you many drinks🥰🥰
