"Ethan Should Sue Him In Australia" Convo w/ Drew Pavlou
►https://youtu.be/_qEoNF_UY14

I've seen the interview live and what Dr.K doesnt seem to understand is that he worked at Blizzard for 7 years.

Dr K out here tryin to tear down an indestructible wall of ego.

Pirate Software: "People just hate me for absolutely no reason."
Dr. K: "I feel like there is a lot you're not telling me."
Rinse and repeat

the amount of tip toeing dr k has to do around his ego is insane

Dr K: Maybe tell them you're sorry?

Thor: Ok. I'm sorry they feel this way.

13:50 I can’t believe Dr. K went to the future to see Destiny’s stream just to balance the mics out for him. What a kind gesture.

Dr K wanted so badly to help Thor here. It's admirable.

Dr. Kirk Honda’s steps for effective apology: 1. Acknowledge the transgression: "I did this."
2. Acknowledge the harm: "I caused you harm."
3. Take responsibility: "It's my fault that..."
4. Sincerely express remorse: "I feel bad about..."
5. Explain the cause, without making excuses:
"I have the following issues..."
6. Provide a plan to address the cause:
"I will work on that by..."
If necessary:
7. Offer remedy: "I will make it up to you by..."
8. Request confirmation of accuracy:
"Did I miss anything?"
9. Request forgiveness: "Do you forgive me?"
10. Follow through with remedy and plan
11. Find meaning

He rubs people the wrong way because all of his responses are basically "Yeah, I already knew that." It's almost like he could never bring himself to admit he has learned something from someone else.

3 hour therapy session and I feel like Pirate Software took absolutely nothing away from that conversation

by the time we get to the end, Pirate is still missing the point.

He's still framing it as if the issue is that "I am just too logical and everyone else is just too emotional and i'm not willing to stoop to their level"

When the real issue is that all he's interested in doing is justifying his behaviour when other people want an apology.

Did Dr. K not see how much mana Pirate had? What did he expect him to do?

It genuinely stresses me out when everytime Dr K was saying something really insightful and worth considering and then Pirate Software just instantly interrupted to say something defensive and unrelated to the point.

It feels like he's trying to teach you something, even when he's wrong.

None of the individual things he's done are really that bad, it's about the pattern of behavior more than anything.

There's a ton going on here but it's kind of wild that he never understood that Dr. K wasn't telling him that he thinks objectively, but that he represents his subjective experience as being objective.

Who would’ve thought that if you double down on the behavior people hate you for will make them hate you more

Dr K can’t provide a single bit of perspective or information without Thor responding with his own example or providing how he understands it without letting Dr K getting past the comma in his own sentence.

If you want to skip to the essence of the lesson, it starts around 2:17:35.
Just know that this is something you won't learn to apply, if you only listen to the summary, so either sit down and do a  thorough self-reflection about situations in which you've been called out on applicable behaviours, and ask yourself how you could have benefitted from granting more benefit of the doubt to other people's opinions of you (because you can figure out a lot about the flaws in your behaviour by asking yourself how you could have assuaged the other person at the right time, regardless of how wrong they might have been at every step along the way. Because being right is usually way less of an factor in finding the next productive step to take in any situation, than all the other underlying circumstances - feelings, what caused them and how to deal with them, underlying problems, disconnectedness in a relationship, insecurities about your own personality or their insecurities about theirs, etc. etc.) or just watch the whole thing and try to gain something from that.
