Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt might have one of the most toxic, destructive and complicated romances on television, but I’m here to argue that they’re also perfect for each other.

In this Interview with the Vampire video essay, I’m diving into Louis and Lestat’s relationship, why Loustat keeps finding its way back to each other, and the part of their love story that sometimes gets lost in all the discourse about abuse, obsession and toxicity: Louis and Lestat genuinely like each other.

They make each other laugh. They challenge each other. They’re fascinated by each other. They spend decades misunderstanding how the other person loves, while still understanding parts of each other that almost nobody else can see. And even after betrayal, murder, separation and more than a century of emotional chaos, neither of them can quite imagine a life in which the other one doesn’t matter.

So yes: I am a Loustat truther.
