As a person who is just learning about hand stitching and embroidery and particularly sashiko you have made the explanation of these thimbles so clear. I feel like a new world was just opened up me before my eyes.

I’ve just started learning Sashiko and your videos have been so very helpful! But even if I wasn’t learning Sashiko, I’d still watch them as they are incredibly gentle and relaxing. Thank you for the peace.

As a left hander, who is also ambidextrous I think sashiko is going to suit me - the thimble pad on the palm looks like an essential tool 😊 I've never felt comfortable with metal thimbles, so this is perfect ❤

I’ve watched this post before, but just realized that I forgot to like. Currently, I’m making a fall scarf using Tunisian crochet.
I have my book cover project planned out with fabric and paper pattern ready, but still need to make this thimble; step two. I even have a small collection of bottle caps. Now to dedicate a small project bag/box amid my other projects. 🙃

Well here I am again a year later after I commented on your tutorial. I just made my thimble! It's a bit wonky shaped, & my Sashiko crosses aren't very straight, but I did it! I used a tag from my dog that passed away as the metal base, so this thimble will always be my special one. Thanks again for your step by step instructions. You're the best teacher. 😃

Thanks as always ❤. As you you repurpose a lot of old denims, you can made a thick and very resistant thimble with the leather label on the back of the trouser. It's rare now to have thick leather for these labels but with ancient pair of jeans, it was common. I only change the layer of denim over the leather when it's worn out and reuse the leather over and over cause it's very thick 😊

That's a beautiful idea.❤ I think instead of a button kit you could also use a beer bottle cap. At least that was my first guess on what you used when I saw the thumbnail. I think I might give that a try, simply because I like the idea of repurposing 'trash'.

I really appreciate how clear and unassuming they are. 5 minutes ago, I finished my first hand-made sashiko thimble using this method (except I used a hair-band as the elastic part), which makes me very happy, even proud, and raring to go, and it's all thanks to you!

Another excellent video. I have a plate thimble made for me by the Japanese wife of my adult education German language teacher (!!??). Apparently there's a 100 yen coin inside and the face is decorated with a dancing rabbit (my year sign) but I hadn't considered what I'd do if/when it wears out - at least I now have the option of making a replacement myself!
