A man with a flat tire heard gunshots, watched two men drive away, and later picked Tony Soprano out of an FBI mugshot book. For one episode, Tony was looking at twenty years to life and getting ready to run.

This is the full story of the Matt Bevilaqua murder and the witness who almost ended Tony: the botched hit on Christopher, the gray house, the diet soda, the photo array, and why the case collapsed without Tony's crew ever finding the man. The second gunman was working for the FBI the whole time.

Episodes: Full Leather Jacket (S2E8), From Where to Eternity (S2E9), Bust Out (S2E10).

What would you have done in the witness's place? Tell me in the comments.
