Odyssey, Vivity, or PureSee — which premium IOL is right for your cataract surgery? Dr. Mayank Bansal compares all three: vision quality, night halos and who each lens really suits.

If you're planning cataract surgery, choosing the right premium intraocular lens (IOL) is one of the most common questions patients ask. In this video, Dr. Mayank Bansal compares three leading premium IOLs. The Odyssey IOL (Johnson & Johnson) is the newest option — a diffractive multifocal lens that delivers excellent distance and near vision, though its design can cause halos around lights at night, especially when the pupil is dilated. The PureSee IOL is an extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens with excellent distance, intermediate, and near vision and far fewer halos than Odyssey — though very fine print, like a newspaper, may still call for reading glasses. The Alcon Vivity IOL, also an EDOF lens, offers a similar profile: strong all-round vision with minimal halos, though near vision is slightly less sharp than Odyssey's.

The short answer: if near vision matters most to you and occasional halos at night aren't a dealbreaker, Odyssey may be the better choice. If you'd rather have a smoother, more balanced range of vision with minimal halos — and don't mind reaching for reading glasses occasionally — PureSee or Vivity are excellent options. Watch the full video to see exactly which premium IOL fits your lifestyle before your cataract surgery.
