From stealing cigarettes and humanitarian aid to serving the Shin Bet, armed gangs and militias within the Gaza Strip are being installed by Israel as an alternative to Hamas for managing the Strip's security and military affairs. Who are the most prominent leaders and members of these gangs? How did they form and transform from groups smuggling goods and stealing aid into tools in Israel's hands? What is their true extent of presence in the Strip, and what is the reality of the support and cover provided to them by Israeli intelligence?

In this episode of "The Explainer," we trace the path of these collaborator gangs within Gaza and delve into the behind-the-scenes story of their formation since mid-2014. We identify their founders by name and number, and their areas of deployment and concentration under the protection of the Israeli army. We also shed light on the reactions of Gazans and the popular confrontations waged by residents and the resistance to dismantle these gangs and thwart their treacherous plot.
