I’m from West Australia and Spent a lot of time on the north shore during the late 80s and 90s including a stretch living there from 94 to 97. Got married there and stayed for 3 years. Wild place back then  and I loved everything about it ,good and bad. Worked construction for a local contractor and found out being a Haol’e during the winter was one thing and being a foreign Haol’e living and working there in the community was another thing altogether !
Character building is an understatement. I’m 58 now and wouldn’t swap my time there for anything. Those islands and their people taught me humility and respect and I’ll be forever grateful for my time there . I met Tamayo while living there and knew his wife from back home and he became a good friend .He spent many a WA winter in my house and state chasing desert barrels with his wife Amelia. His West Oz Ohana miss him deeply.

Born and raised in Haleiwa. All it is now is a mini waikiki. Constant bumper to bumper traffic. You like go beach? Good luck. Most beaches get loaded up pretty early in the morning. All the fun stuff that used to be able to do no can anymore. And don’t get me started with the cost of everything at the stores here in the town too 🤣

Yep, my Mom and her Siblings grew up on the old Meadow Gold Dairy Ranch across Lanikea Beach. They lived in the house up on the hill. I miss how Hale’iwa used to be. I’m glad Waialua is still small kine untouched. Pray it stays that way. Speaking of Waimea, me, my sister and my cousins grew up on that rock. Bombing since age 5. We seen one of my Uncle’s Friends get paralyzed from doing a handstand off Towers. Crazy kine stuff we used to see. My Parents used to have a Lunchwagon down Waimea. They remodeled a Mail Truck, and we used to spend weekends down there. Good times

You missed the most notable murder on the NS. The brasilian housekeeper/mom, who was murdered while cleaning house by a teen with green hair. A manhunt pursued, post by the husband went out on FB, saying he had $100k for anyone who found and brought the killer to him. That was a tragic and gnarly day for the whole island because the of social media.

Tamayo’s passing was so sad. I worked with him on a handful of film sets over nearly a decade. Most notable was probably Jumani. We were both, “bad guy bosses”. I think he was boss of the crocodiles and I was boss of the turtles…something that was not really portrayed on the film at all, but was a big part of production. We had lots of fun times in the jungle dancing around a big bonfine on set, night after night. RIP! He was a good Christian and conservative dude.
