I can confirm as a GEN X that we don't give a shit.

As Gen X, I really don’t want you to know me.  You don’t need to know where I live, or what I stand for.  But if you fuck with me, you will know me.

The rules were simple at our house.  I did what  I was told and didn't talk back, and my parents wouldn't kick the shit out of me.

the rule in my house growing up was if it wasn't gushing blood, broken, or on fire, then don't bother a grown up...

Im a 56 year old Gen Xer.    I can agree with most of it.   I still think it was the best time to be a teen in the 80s.

I doubt you will ever find one GenXer who wished they weren't. I'd bet anything all of us are grateful. ❤

Im gen x, born in 73, babysitting at 9, running the streets on my bike since 6, latchkey kid. So independent we need no one. Best time ever, exploring woods, construction sites, dams everything you think a kid would love we did. Freedom at its finest. 70s and 80s were the best!!!!

it isn't that we don't care - we care deeply.  It's that we're very selective about what we care about.  We don't tend to care about opinions of people we have never met or even heard of.  We don't care about the opinions of those who bring no value to our lives.  We have friends and family that we would die for (literally!), and have no room in our psyches for things and people that have no relevance.  We carry trauma and pain, but showing either was seen as weakness - you learned to deal with it, to adapt, and to carry on.  Seeing younger people wail and cry over things that we brushed aside is difficult at best, disgust-inducing more likely.  Fathers didn't hug their sons after age 5 or so, we (young men of my generation) were only allowed to display one emotion (anger!?!), and privacy and independence were not only normal but expected.  We don't complain about this, even if we now know now how psychologically damaging it was, we accept is as a product of the times we grew up in.  When gen x's aren't sympathetic to the travails of the younger generations it isn't because we're hateful, it's because it is truly so far removed from our experiences of independence, self-reliance, and "pushing through the pain" that we absolutely don't understand how what we see as minor bullsh(% can be so utterly overwhelming.  We aren't heartless, we just don't understand why anyone would advertise their every life event and failure to strangers and then be devastated by any negative feedback.

There is a value to boredom that we're losing.

Born in 74 so gen x thru and thru. I was babysitting my siblings at 9, making dinner for family, doing laundry, cleaned the house, getting honor roll in school and had a full time job in high school. I had my own car at 15 paid insurance and did upkeep on it myself. Independence is an understatement.....we were adults by 10:)

I would tell you all about how this applies to me, but I don't post my business.😂

I'm a gen X born in 1972, and every thing in the video is 💯 is true. We would get on our bikes leave the house in the morning and came home when the street lights came on.

As a Gen Xer, I feel alot of this applies to me personally. I don't post my personal life on social media (even though I'm aware of it and how it works), and approach work much the same way as described in this video.

I LOVED spending time in the library hunting for interesting books

This was just about 100% spot on.
Was it perfect, no. Perfect doesn't exist.
Would I trade it for any other generation to grow up in?
Absolutely not.

I STILL HAVE A LIBRARY CARD.

If you didn't grow up in the 70s or 80s all I can say is, poor you. GEN X FKN RULES!!!!!!!!

That's our psychology. We don't expect things to last forever, we don't expect people to always be there for us, and we are smart enough to have more than one way make money.

When i came home and no one was home, I LOVED IT. Had the whole house to myself.

I love this quote I heard because it was so true.  "When I was eight my mom told me to go outside and play, and she hasn't checked on me since"
