A man that took his own life; keeps my life alive.

Rip DFW, this awesome monologue lives on with brightness for mankind for those that cross it’s path.

The only thing that is true is that you get to decide how to see it.

Oh wow, and the mic drop at the end 🤯

What a human.

Absolutely brilliant...what I wouldn't give to be in the audience listening to this speech!

Absolutely fearsome. This is the power of living with actual freedom. Excellent.

Absolutely riveting and sensational. I return to this twice a year, minimum, and have done so for several years. Easily searchable here and always of better quality than the last iteration. THIS IS WATER. THIS IS WATER. THIS IS WATER.☮☯

Goosebumps every single time I hear this speech. Such a blessed and at the same time tormented soul. RIP

I’ve been confronted by my own selfishness and power and creativity to change my perception. Thank you

What a special way he had to communicate how he saw the world and noticed the things both troubling and interesting. I’ve only discovered his writing recently, and it has given me much to think about in my own approach to both life and writing.

I just love all the parents laughing in this speech. They know it all too well.

We can't "unknow what we know", but we can choose how we use what we know. From the time we are born and until the time we die, we are constantly learning and experiencing the wonders and the horrors of being Human. Some of us are exposed to many different myths and life experiences and some have a  very limited exposure based on the geographic location of our birth, upbringing and accessibility to knowledge of other cultures and their myths.

Growing up in the Information Age and having been involved with computers and the programming of them since their introduction in the 60s and 70s, I have a different perspective than most people who just used them for work or entertainment. I actually thought that having all the information in the world available to us at the click of a mouse would bring the World closer  together, and it still might, but I am not as optimistic as I once was!

The race for the greatest Artificial Intelligence is testing us now and without proper regulation of its use, which is non-existent at this point in time, might be the final filter or hurdle that Humanity and other intelligent species in the Cosmos fail to pass that leads to their extinction. Empathy is the key and only biological life is capable of it. AI certainly is NOT!

Why does almost every other person cut the Eskimo story out of his speech? It seems like a great build up to the rest of the speech.

Why are this speech and this man examples of brilliance?

what a beautiful speech

Oh, you,
this important voice
I wish your default mind
hadn't even up.

தண்ணி இதுதான் , தண்ணி இதுதான் , தண்ணி இதுதான்  , இதுதான் இதுதான்
தண்ணி

I listen to this every year before I attend my school commencement, usually featuring the banalities about success that mean less than nothing. One criticism: this version cuts off the speech before DFW ends it with...."I wish you way more than luck." He was a genius.

Ah, Awareness, yes, most important in life, patience too I have realised in my life! Wonderful speech  ❤️
