Fight me.

What’s worse are ppl who proudly proclaim, with their chests…that they don’t read.

The unhinged filter skit alone makes this video worthwhile.

“This could be a Truman show situation.  In which case, this season has sucked ASS.”

Brother, truer words have never been spoken

another one i've heard a lot is people proclaiming with pride that they only read the dialogue or skip entire pages bc there is no dialogue

Sometimes a hypocrite is a person in the process of changing.

At 53, I've been a huge fantasy reader my whole life. Not only fantasy, but mostly. In the last 10 years or so it's been harder and harder to find a fantasy book that didn't feel like a predictable retread of dozens of other things I'd read. It's taken me awhile to realize that the problem isn't the books as much as the fact that I'd kept mostly to not just fantasy, but a certain type of fantasy.  I've expanded my horizons quite a bit recently and it's paying off.  I still read a lot of fantasy but I've stopped trying to make myself read the same kinds of fantasy. It's such a wide ranging genre. And I read so much more in other genres. The cool thing that you don't realize if you only read one genre is how much reading more widely can increase your appreciation of every genre. It's pretty crazy. There are so very many stories and so very many ways to tell them.

My hot take is that I think we need to be more granular with where romantasy gets placed in bookstores. Some romantasy books are fantasy forward with a high dose of romance, but A LOT are simply romance books with fantasy used as window dressing and that's fine but that isn't SFF. That's romance and it should be shelved as such. And I say this as someone who wants romance in my SFF. The popularity of romantasy has actually made it harder imo to find books that have really solid fantasy/world building and a romantic SUBPLOT.

“We glorify the past to diminish the present” is an incredibly thought-provoking line that applies to way more than just books

4:44 I'm home alone this morning with my wireless earbuds in and a walked away from my phone for like 3 seconds. SUDDENLY! I hear this loud knocking and I turn to because directly to my left is the front door. Nobody's there. I was freaked out thinking that someone was at the back door so I immediately turned around to see. Nobody was there either. Literally terrified me with a knock

'This season has sucked ass' RELATABLE AF DUDE

I see the "nothing is Original" more as a counter to someone who is convinced they cant do something because its already been done. Because it shouldnt be about something being original, it should be about a person wanting to that and putting something personal into that project

I backed a Kickstarter a long time ago whose goal was to pick a bunch of old science fiction books that were no longer in print, track down whoever the current rights-holders were (usually an author's widow or estate) and get permission to make ebooks for sale. I got something like 30 books that way before the project collapsed and have (finally) been working my way through them this past year after actually buying an ereader. That's been part of the shame of copyright being extended so long. Works like these that weren't massive enough hits to stay in print forever wind up languishing in obscurity. How many copies of a cheap paperback from the 1950s are still going to be around in the 2040s when the copyright expires?

I fear for you Daniel, these skits are getting more and more unhinged 🤣

Remember kids: Just because its ok for you to have an opinion: that does not consequently mean that opinion has any value whatsoever.

The weirdest book opinion/habit I’ve seen is having to read through your TBR. For example, if I make a TBR list and have started it, I think it’s weird to say “I want to read the new Suneater book, but I have 7 books I have to read first on my TBR list. Like, it’s good to have a list but if you’re excited to read something new that comes along then go do that instead.

Another opinion/habit that I see my friends doing is seeing them force themselves to read through series’ they don’t like. They like booktube and have added books to their TBR list based on booktube review so that they can be able to be well-read in the genre. It’s good to finish books you start in case they might make you change your mind. But if you’ve read through an entire book in a series and you didnt like it in its entirety, there’s a good chance that you won’t like the series, either. DNF the series if it doesn’t vibe with you. Forget about booktube; If someone you respect recommends you a book series and you realize it’s not for you, you’re allowed to stop reading for any single reason. At least you gave it a try.

5:29 Heck, even with Mr. Beast numbers you can ignore something. I let YouTube know I didn't want Mr. Beast recommendations and I haven't seen one since.

“Nothings original”/“everything new is bad” are just lazy critiques people throw out to sound smart without having to invest any actual effort or thought into what they are talking about.

I've been editing books professionally for over 20 years. Every five years, or so, a trend ripples through (not just in literature). Once the trend passes, younger generations conclude that the trend is dead (we all go through that feeling when young). What they don't yet recognize is that the recently passed trend was actually a recycled trend from a previous generation (although nowadays the cycles are shorter than generations). It's like bellbottoms.... I've seen the Wheel turn out bellbottoms twice in my lifespan, and I know they were around before my time, too. It happens in movies, art styles, music, and literature. Believe it or not, the beginning of LOTR (the Hobbiton segment) was everyone's "cozy fantasy", once upon a time. And before there was "Frieren", there was "Natsume" (which just got a new season a whole 9 years since the last, and it was gorgeously on point).
These cycles allow for enrichment and expansion every time the wheel turns out an old trend again to a new generation. I think it's marvelous! So much to look forward to! 🤩🥰🥳

As an indie author, I've always known that my work is probably going to die with me. Even the stuff that's already published--it's probably going to fade into obscurity even before I kick the bucket. If I'm luckily, I'll get a post-mortem bump before those books wind up in a garage sale or thrift store.

And that's okay. I'm not doing this for fame and fortune. I'm doing it because I enjoy writing and creating and connecting with fans. The living, breathing fans right in front of me who love my work and are made better for it are so much more important than hypothetical people 100 years from now.
