These Accidents with Blades Can Teach You Something

If you mess around with sharp, pointy things when you don't know what you're doing can get ugly, of course. Let's look at a few example of cautionary tales involving swords and other dangerous objects that you can learn from.

I'll be drawing from my experience in practicing armed martial arts to tell you about how these could have been avoided, and give some advice to whoever is willing to listen.

Some of these are pretty funny too, and there will be some snark in my commentary (d'uh).

Treat every blade as if it’s razor sharp and every gun as if it is loaded. These are the best ways to minimize accidents.

"Suicide by stabbing oneself in the back of the head" sounds like something that the KGB would claim to have happened 😂

In restaurant kitchens we have a saying..."a falling knife has no handle"

The most famouse last words before a trip to the ER is: "hey watch this"

"don't drink and blade" perfect!

Every blade is sharp, every pan and surface is hot, every gun is loaded, and every printer wants to kill you. These are the words that will keep you alive

I feel for the fella who spiked his saber into the ground, HEMA costs are no joke

@shawnenjump 6 days ago

I can't. My hand my eyes and my soul hurts when that man wraps his hand around the plastic and sword.

"A falling knife has no handle." Best thing I was ever told when I started working in a kitchen.

And people wonder why i wear steel toe boots (because sometimes shit bounces and goes where you don't want it)

Key advice given to me as a young man, "don't fuck with shit you don't understand."

That Cutlery Salesman is giving all the alcoholic vibes at once. I'm amazed he didn't break into tears or complain about his spouse mid-display.

I'll give indoors katana guy this: At least it was a clean cut!

And remember that a tourniquet around the neck stops all bleeding.

I'll admit I poked myself playing with sharps, but I'm glad there's no footage.

@CJOwen 6 days ago

As a Gen-X who is so very glad that there is no video evidence of my youthful embarrassments, I never understand why people will post their mistakes online voluntarily.

@gunnarneumann8321 6 days ago

I wouldn't even say that most of these injuries are a product of a lack of training. They're a product of trying to use it as something other than a weapon.

"If you're doing something cool, don't record yourself."
Wise words to live by.

One of the great features of a Messer is the "beak" at the end of the grip that prevents it from slipping out of your hand (which can happen more easily with a wooden handle).
