Everyone sells Koh Phangan as a spiritual paradise of yoga retreats, full moon magic, and "finding yourself." We spent time on the island and this is what it's really like.

🧘 Holier-than-thou travellers. The barefoot, "I'm so much more conscious than you" crowd who lecture you about energy, plastic straws and how they think you should talk to the locals to be politically correct just before they head straight to the next drug-fuelled party

🌀 Fake spirituality. Overpriced "healers," cacao ceremonies, self-proclaimed gurus selling enlightenment by the hour, and a whole crowd of travellers who think they're more enlightened than everyone else

💊 Drug dealers. Getting approached constantly, and one encounter that got way too close for comfort.

💸 Scams and rip-offs. Tourist pricing, dodgy rentals, and being ripped off by locals who see every foreigner as a walking ATM.

🗑️ The party crowd. Trashed beaches, blackout tourists, and a scene that's lost whatever made it special

We're not saying Thailand is bad. We love it. But Koh Phangan isn't what Instagram shows you, and you should know before you book.
