Yet another excellent review from Jen!
I think I'll buy this kit!
Thank you!

The delightful actor Peter Butterworth 1915-79 (of Carry On film fame) was a Flight Lieutenant in one these Flying Contraptions! Thank You for your service..Sir.

A nice review.  I've built the Fairey Firefly kits (Mk 1 and Mk 5) from Special Hobby (also have the Firefly kit from Grand Phoenix in my stash).  They were good kits....with the expected challenge of short run kits.  I would like to do a Barracuda in 1/48 (I've heard the Barracuda described as Origami in Metal).  Fairey created some really nice/cool aircraft during the war (and after), but I don't know anyone who would describe them as beautiful.  Peace.

Hiya Jen,  hope you're good 😊
A lovely, fairly detailed looking kit of an often overlooked aircraft. I've never built one! I've never even built a Special Hobby kit but I really want to build the new Baltimore mk3 in 48 scale, when it comes out.
The wing assembly looks to be a little easier than most bi-planes and I wouldn't mind building this one. Look forward to seeing you build it at any rate! 😊
I know you have alot on the plate at the moment though! 😳😟🤣
Nice review Jen, thanks 👍 Enjoy the weekend.
Take care 🤗👋

At this point it’d be funny (and most likely educational) to watch Jenny tackling a short run kit from the 90’s😅

I’ve seen the trumpeter built up and done a bit of research against historical photos. The conclusion is that trumpeter has (as always) butchered it completely especially in the shape of the nose area. And the general stance is completely wrong.

Great review, Jen. For some reason, I fell in love with the Albacore when I saw photos of it first in the 1960s. Why? Who knows. I won't be buying this kit, though a few years ago I would have laid my money down immediately. Commonsense has reached me finally in my late 70s when I am conforming to my wife's demands to get rid of most of my huge stash. But which kits and how? For sure, no job lots to hobby shops which will give me a few bucks and then sell my pristine condition kits for high prices. A stall at a community market? Maybe, especially as we approach Christmas. It's the great problem with stashes. Every kit I bought, I planned to build, but for various reasons, never did. And then I'd get an enthusiasm for a particular plane, based on magazine articles and later YouTube programmes and compulsively I'd buy every available kit. If I had stuck to my original plan of Pacific war planes, I would be in a less difficult position. So? Well, I enjoy the hobby and I enjoy watching modelling shows. And I plan to build along with you on the Airfix Mosquito tutorials/builds. Your shows are excellent and a constant inspiration. Mike from New Zealand.

Special Hobby presented the fuselage and wing frames already in January 2020 at Nuremberg, so they definitely are older technology. Their Mosquito does also have some frames that are more older technology.

Well Fairey aircraft did have a certain.....errr......ummm..... panache 😉  I have the Special Hobby Barracuda, it's actually quite good. The questions regarding the decals are legitimate. Could the "peelable" film be contributing to the washed out colors? I get why Special Hobby teams up with (probably) Eduard on the decals as a cost thing but maybe they can learn from Cartograph (I know the latter firm's decals are not "peelable film" but they seem to consistently provide excellent decals. First Hasegawa with their "French vanilla" white, then Tamiya with the infamous "thick" decals.... where does the madness end 😅.

I've always loved the determined functionality of Fairey aircraft. Only the Delta was pretty.

At last. Trumpeter at least made the larger 1/48. Too much of the Swordfish comparison at times. It had quite an active service, did plenty of damage. Yes less maneuverable but its a torpedo bomber for a start, its meant to be a stable platform. The Beaufort looks great, much more modern but had an 82% fatality rate. One of the toughest jobs in the warfare. Hence dive bombers taking on the mantle. A Swordfish didnt survive naval attacks on maneuverability , normally down to a ships gun elevation limitations. Its more rugged design took away its more powerful engines speed advantage but then it was meant to be a modern enclosed design. Imagine the weather and temperature environments the Fleet Air Arms aircraft served in. Too much of a modification to an already obsolete design but still went out and caused a fair bit if mayhem. As for the kit, why no open canopy. The huge greenhouse compartment is its most interesting area. A progress from the Swordfish's almost WW1 exposure. Maybe even side panels to be opened would have been nice. Every kit should come with open and closed canopy options even in this top loaded configuration. Great decal choice. Special Hobby should get more praise for the types they bother to cover. Thank you for the heads up. Had been researching the Albacore. I think Special Hobby do a Wildebeest too?

Hi Jen,  your demonstration of how easily the top side carrier film can be peeled of the "Eduard style" decals was scary to be frank.   But appreciated.   I'm thinking I need to buy after market decals for the Eduard PF1B kit I purchased recently.  I don't suppose there's any chance that Eduard will recant and go back to the old style decals which worked just fine in my humble opinion.   Another superlative Quick Look Review!

I would guess it might be a re-tooling of their 2007 kit, rather than a fully redesigned kit or a combination of old and new.  Would explain the look of the fuselage and wing sprues.

🖖

The peeled off decal is salvageable though: a nice layer of clear coat should do the trick.
If it's a Fairey it has my vote anytime! 👍
What's wrong with the Barracuda?! 🙂

"the destructions" I say that all the time 😆
I have a Barracuda awaiting someone to do a wing-fold set (🤞ResKit, you know you want to 😁)

Hello jennis!we definatly need more women in scale modelling.
I hope you keep your mojo!
With best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg germany.faithfully yours.your modellmate.christian

It was interesting to see what was inside the box. Thanks for the video.

Neat review. On a subject you don't see much of. Thank you for the look! My two bits.

It looks like a nice kit and I do like Special Hobby kits having built a few. I have just bought their P 40 Warhawk in Finnish colours but I will add that Albacore to my future to buy list. Cheers Jen.
