India finished their 2005–06 tour of Pakistan in spectacular fashion, defeating Pakistan by eight wickets in Karachi and completing a dominant 4-1 ODI series victory.
Pakistan posted 288, recovering strongly after India's fast bowlers once again dismantled their top order.
Kamran Akmal and Imran Farhat provided Pakistan with a solid beginning, but Sreesanth struck repeatedly to put India in control. His disciplined bowling and intelligent changes of angle produced three important wickets.
Ramesh Powar then applied further pressure with accurate offspin and dismissed Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Pakistan's middle order fought back through Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan. Yousuf played an attacking innings while Younis accelerated late to help Pakistan reach a competitive 288.
But India had already shown throughout the series that chasing was becoming their specialty.
Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir established the foundation before Dravid fell for 50 with India on 141.
Then came the partnership that decided the match.
Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni took control.
Yuvraj repeatedly pierced Pakistan's packed off-side field with powerful cover drives, while Dhoni began accelerating with his trademark explosive strokeplay.
With 94 still required, Yuvraj was given a huge reprieve when Shoaib Malik dropped a straightforward chance at extra cover.
Pakistan paid heavily for the mistake.
Yuvraj, despite suffering a hamstring injury, continued his assault and reached a magnificent 107 not out — his first ODI century against Pakistan.
At the other end, Dhoni produced one of the most destructive finishes of the series. He scored his final 50 runs from just 27 balls, attacking Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Sami and the rest of Pakistan's bowling attack with astonishing power.
India reached the target with ease and completed an eight-wicket victory.
It was India's 13th consecutive successful ODI run chase and their fourth straight victory of the series.
