The Creature From The Black Lagoon is still one of the best monster movie icons after many decades.  Thank you, Dan.  👍🏻🖖🏻✌🏻

Had the honor of meeting Mr. Browning before he passed.  I asked him how he (IMO) felt about being on the Mount Rushmore of Horror.  He didn't seem to know that he was.  He was such a nice man, answered  my questions and even told me some things.  The Creature is still one of my favorite "monsters" of all time.

I'm a child of the 60's, but mom said CREATURE From The BLACK LAGOON was a big deal back in the 50's. I think it was scarier for the girls.

I just visited Wakulla Springs in Florida two weeks ago. A lot of the movie was filmed there, and the man that played the Creature (underwater) in all three movies, Rico Browning, was a lifeguard at the springs.

During filming it was very clear but sadly now, due to pollution seeping into the underground aquifer, it truly is a "black" lagoon as you can't see your hand in front of your face in the main spring.

Trivia: 1. the lodge at Wakulla plays all three CFTBL movies non-stop in their beautiful lobby;

Trivia 2. a full-sized original molded Creature, donated by Rico Browning, is in the corner of the park's boathouse.

How cool is that?

The costume still looks incredible even after so many decades.

I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, and my favorite monster is "The Creature from the Black Lagoon." I collected and read "Famous Monsters of Filmland" and watched a large number of monster films in theaters and on television. I even have a personally autographed poster by Ricou Browning, the original "Creature from the Black Lagoon."

When listing the appearances of the Creature outside of the original films, you forgot to mention his appearance in The Monster Squad (1987). Having Dracula and the other Universal monsters, including the Gill-Man, go up against a group of kids made for a fun movie.

I'm surprised you didn't include the photo taken when the creature accidentally hit Julie's head on the cave wall while filming. Seeing the creature stand over her showing real concern while the crew bandage her head is pretty surreal.

November 2025 - As a kid, the Creature from the Black Lagoon was soo scary to see, I’d skip swimming in any lake or beach for a while. Dan, you’re great at showing all the tech of how movies are carefully made. I’m a 3-D fan… folks think you need two cameras separated by 50 millimeters to film in 3-D. But actually just a half inch separation will start the 3-D feeling.
Keep those great movie reviews going. I loved to draw storyboards for movie planning. Director Alfred Hitchcock loved to storyboard plan a movie too. That’s waay cool! Peace!

The Creature was always my favorite. I owned a Super 8 version in 3D that we played for our friends back in the late 70’s/early 80’s. My best friend and I made a Creature from the Black Lagoon Super 8 stop motion movie and used our friends mom to voice June, our female lead. We titled it Return of the Creature. We entered it in an amateur film contest judged among others by Ray Harryhausen. We won third place I think, but we had a great time making the movie and watching the original. Later we saw it in 3D at a theater in Georgia called The Silver Screen which was a double feature with It Came from Outer Space, also in 3D! Great times! Thank you, Dan for doing this video and reviving great memories.

The Creature was always my favorite monster since I was a kid.  I rooted for the Creature.   I used to have that poster from Sugar Crisp cereal too.  I wish I still had it.

While Patrick did do the artwork concepts, the Creature’s head was sculpted by aforementioned Chris Mueller, the suit was sculpted by Kevin Kelan.

I recall Richard Carlson was in damn near everything sci-fi or monster related back then. And he was really good at it.

I got lucky and got to meet Ricou just before he passed in Indy a couple of years ago. Very nice guy. Nice experience.

As a fan of Murder She Wrote, I still can't get over that Julie Adams was the lead in this movie. She plays a character named Eve Simpson who lives in Cabot Cove. That's where I knew her from first, as an older woman who's friends with Jessica. To later realize that's her younger self, only wearing a bathing suit and in a monster movie, delights me to no end!

Ok Dan, as one of the world's biggest Creature fans and "experts", you managed to impress me with a number of tidbits I didn't know about the trilogy. Great job. My best friend had that Aurora model. Honestly, I think it kicked off my love for these films which persists through this day.
My wife and I will be at the Frida show, so I'm really hoping you might surprise everybody with a live appearance.  Fingers crossed. Got my tickets already.

I sat through this movie 3 times before I could stop peeking through my fingers.
What still.gets me is the wonderful sound track with the creature popping up and swimming quickly at you.  The sudden.horns blarring with the claws reaching for you.
LOVED IT!!
I blessed enough to to catch all the great 3D mivies of the 50"s at the perfect theater in my home town.
Some very outstanding effects had us reaching out to touch things like the tecnicolor ballons in House of Wax.
PS:  Popcorn.was made fresh in industrial popcorn machines that filled the theater, inside and out, with real popcorn smell.  I'm so old I remember when the first buttered popcorn was introduced in cylindrical tubes.

Robot banter, can’t get enough 😂😂😂

Came to the big screen in the "twilight" of the monster movie era.  Still one of the best features Universal ever produced.  Ranks up there with "Frankenstein."  Thanks for the share.
