Great video! I have a 1DX MKII for my professional digital work for everything from studio portraits to sports photography and it has never let me down.

Enjoyed the video Joe!
I use a 1dX mark 1 and the main reason why I haven't upgraded to mirrorless is just the equivalent for me would be to get an R3/R1, and that's just out of my price range.
Like you, I love the big grip size and audible gunfire shooting too! They're just such nice cameras. Really fast and take nice photos and are good in low light, and feel indestructible and that I can use it in rain and not worry, which are all very important to me. Plus the battery just lasts for ages!
I think the main reason people at my camera club upgraded to mirroless is that it is so much lighter to have a mirrorless camera.

I have 1dx mark III and I shoot sport (fustal) in live view with electronic shutter, 10k iso 1/1000s and f4 with ZERO NOISE IMAGE. I think my 1dx mark iii is better than R3 and and a bit worse than r1 for logic reasons. A friend of mine calls the 1dx mark iii “R2” because its in between of them 😂 have a good day man !

in terms of expression, the unfocused eye gave the image a more expressive look. As the other eye was focused you don't get a feeling of missed shot. In the contrary it gains power.

This summer I really tried to commit to mirrorless. I traded my 1dxiii for a back up r6ii to force myself. But I can't do it...
I like mirrorless when I'm in easy environments like over a lake or a field. But in the woods shooting owls I feel like I'm fighting with a kid who's got bad ADHD. Constantly trying to keep it on my subject and away from berries, leaves and branches.

I ended up getting my 1dxiii back and it's such a relief haha. Like you said you just point it at what you want and you get photos.

May I ask. I use 5D2, 5D4 and 6D1. I really would like this 1DX2.

I only use single centre point and recompose for the last 20 years for what I photograph.

When you say it always gets the focus are you using single point or let it do its thing.

I run all my cameras with canon battery grips as I love the weight and size. I do have one canon mirrorless but it’s I find slower because your fafing around with modes and focus zone. So I use dslr daily for my work. They just get the job done.

I also like real GPS in my 6D1 and 5D4. This model has GPS?

Would say this MK II or should I aim for a MK III based on my gear and that I like single point centre focus point.

For image rendering I actually like the 6D1 my 5D4 i find too clinical sometimes.

Just found your channel subbed.

I upgraded from the 90d to the 1dx mk 2 about two years ago and I love it my first ff camera think I’ve taken over 10000 photos in that time I use mine for our horses we breed and train show jumpers and dressage I live in spain so the light is fantastic I have the 70-200 2.8 28-300 l  70-300 l the 24-70 2.8 and the 24-105 my only problem I find with the mk 2 is the on off button like yourself I have big hands and find it a bit fiddly

I used this exact camera at the zoo yesterday, but with a Tamron 150-600mm lens. I got some really good shots of fennec fox kits.

Love my 1DxMKII have taken so many beautiful photos with it. The auto focus is lightning fast. I do alot of video in wildlife so needed mirrorless for hybird shooting. Pickup R7. 1DxMKII takes great video to just hard to us in alot of situations. Great Video Great Photo's DSLR are still strong. Cheers

I was switching from the 1DsMk3 to the 1DXMk2 back in 2018 and was delighted of the much better dynamic range and ISO I could use. The 1DX-series - similar to its predecessors - never let me down regardless how inconvenient the environmental conditions have been (was shooting a lot in Asia with high humidity and ugly climate, but also in deserts of central Asia and in snow and ice) - any of my EOS 1 series bodies was performing flawless. It took me quite a while to slowly migrate to RF. I was an "early adopter" for the then upcoming EOS R and was so disappointed by its look and feel, the lack of battery capacity (even with the additional handgrip) - on the other hand I found the 30+ MP quite to be my sweet spot. But I saw it as an experiment. However, for me switching to another brand was not an option, since all transmitters, cables, flashlights etc. (collected over the years) are dedicated Canon compatible. Then I gave it another try, 2,5 years ago, adding a R3, which suited me much better, and then, 1 year ago, switching to R1. I am really happy with that switch, apart from...shooting in the forrests of some hot country, I quickly ran into overheating warnings, an issue I never had with the 1series SLRs. Interesting..however, for me that is the path to go...I find the R1 quite handy and I love its feel and its user interface, it seems sturdy, the IQ is flawless, power management is great - but being suspicious, I am still keeping my 1DXMk2's, admitting that the lineup of my EF lenses is replaced by RF lenses step by step, and given there is no backward compatibility between RF lenses and EF bodies, I will end up with the T/S lenses, some special long lenses (EF 1,8/200 etc.) and 2 or 3 lenses I can use with my EOS1v if the analogue ghost on my shoulder was haunting me...

Hi Joe, I got a mkii just recently, and it's superb. Will get a mkiii eventually, sooner or later funds depending, mainly I guess because it's the last in line of these iconic tools and it will last me out, but the mkii is absolutely adequate till then. There is no substitute for a dslr in my book. I've been after a long lens for a while but always held off because I know it will be seldom used. Nevertheless, those times do arise! I bought a lovely 400mm f5.6 L, which fits that bill perfectly and is tailor-made for the 1dx. Always good to know that you have a camera you can take anywhere, anytime, any weather and it will work. Much as I love my little Fuji in different ways, it can't tick those boxes. Cheers👍

Thanks Joe, absolutely I agree.
Welcome back.
I shot a Triathlon (paid work) with the R6ii and just so happened to have the 1Dxii next to me with the 300mm f2.8 LIS. It was wonderful to pick it up and grab a few shots, lovely looking through the viewfinder and just felt right. Wish I’d started the job the job with the 1Dxii. Next job will be the DSLR.

I agree with you, it was my favorite camera too. I just sold it four years ago. If I ever find another one at a good price, I'll definitely buy it.
I've repurchased my other favorite cameras, but I'm still missing a few (1D X, 5D, 5D mkII, 5D mkIII, and 5D mkIV).
But for assignments, I use my R cameras and lenses.

I downgraded it to mirrorless but immediately upgraded back to DSLR… I shoot nikon but a 1DX mark III would be a welcomed addition

I like dslrs because you really run  and gun with them.  I prefer to compose my images with  an OVF over EVF or  rear screen.  I like the simple menus  of the dslrs.  The mirrorless cameras are great with video although I like doing my own exposure and  prefer focusing points.

Great video. I shot with a Canon 40D back in the day before a long break in photography and then got an R5 when I returned. I recently bought a 1D mark iv and am really impressed by it. I was also using a 5D classic which is much slower in all areas and I enjoying having a more modern DSLR but it’s still under the mirrorless. I agree with all you said about the 1D series and can’t wait to shoot with it more.

I have 2 5D mrk 2's and a 5D Classic. I love how solid they feel in my hand. Modern Cameras just don't feel like I'm holding a Pro brick. The RF cameras will never ever feel like this because Modern snowflakes are to weak these days 🤣 Thanks for showing that beast!

I love taking pictures with my DSLR. I see the light directly through the lens, and the photos turn out better than what I can see with my own eyes. What could be better than that? Besides, I’d have to spend a lot of money on brand-new equipment. Why would I do that?

Glad I purchased 1Dxii few weeks before 2025  Langkawi Airshow in May. Was concerned about the battery life at first but I never found myself out of juice after each day of shooting. On the last day stretched to 9.6k photos (with lots and lots of bursts) with less than 20% charge left.
Paired with my 400mm 5.6L + 1.4x iii converter and it worked brilliantly.
The only thing to be aware of is the oil splatter issue which happened to my unit; sensor cleaning clears them up.

But I read on forums not all units were affected by this.

…And now I ended with mountains of photos to work with 😂

Lovely video. Sure it makes many cry over the fact you enjoy better the 1DXII than your R3, but I understand you perfectly. I love my DSLR aswell. Recenty owning a 1DX III and a Nikon D5 I definitely haven't felt the need to go mirrorless. I 'll skip at least 1 one generation.
