The Tick is usually broken manofold bolts.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, 5.7, 3.92 Differential.
The tick started just over 36000 miles (Dry Start). It was a Minnesota truck until August of 2024. Now in better climates. As soon as my extended warranty expired I changed from the OEM blend and went to Valvoline 5-20 full synthetic. I pulled my 6500lb RV 1100 miles to Colorado. Anyways. Last June (2026) the tick started. Within 2 days I had an oil change (4000 miles on the old oil) added Valvoline 5-20 full synthetic  and a can of BG MOA in it. Only put a few miles on it before adding a quarter quart of Lucus HD Oil Stabilizer in it.

Seemed to quiet the tick by 30%.

Then after only 200 mile's I went to Valvoline Engine Restore, high miles.

Then after 1000 miles I just switched over to Amsoil 5-30 Signature series (the latest formula) + 1 can of BG MOA again.

I'm wondering if this latest Amsoil and MOA might have a simillar result as the Redline, only because of the molly in both products?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

To add, due to the cold winter starts I did alot of Idling.
Now at about 39000 miles.

2005 Hemi ,138,000, no hemi tick, great vehicle.

I started running high grade 10-40 oil at 125000 miles in my 04 5.7  ram. It's at 149000 no tick no issues.

Most of the time it's the exhaust bolts on the manifold if you can shake the cover when it's cold can you have a tick those bolts need changed.

I have always used Pennzoil full synthetic  in my 2014 Ram. I am at 160k miles and it has never ticked. I also never idled it unnecessarily.

So this is an advertisement for Red Line oil? First off it isn't how the MDS system works. The lifter goes into 4 cylinder mode is when the solenoid is energized by the PCM to allow oil pressure to push out the pin in the lifter. Not the other way around. There is no solenoid in the lifter. The tick at cold start up is due to the exhaust bolts at the ends of the exhaust manifold when it starts before the gasket fails all together. It exhaust noise until the head and the exhaust manifold seals it due to expansion when it heats up. If ticks all the time cold to hot, inspect the exhaust manifold for broken bolts for the exhaust manifold. If the lifter was destroyed, it will have a misfire. In order to see if your engine will need to be replaced is to remove the VVT solenoid for metal on the screen. If it has metal on it, it means metal is in the oil passages and if you replace the camshaft, the engine will fail later on. If you don't have metal on the screen, then replace the camshaft and lifters. Then you have to remove the oil pan to get all the metal from the oil pan. Ignore that and you will need an engine down the line.

So redline oil will magically heal the failed micro needle bearings that these lifters are designed . Is that what you were trying to sale here?

I have a 2022Ram 1500 just got it used on a dealership.they just told me they change the motor oil , that’s it , with 29,700, what do I need to change , , since I want this truck to last me , since I am keeping it, thank you

2016 ram 1500 big horn 5.7 220,000 miles and still going no tick mds has been disabled and the manifolds & bolts have been upgraded 185 thermostat fans turn on at 192 have never had any issues i use penzoil platinum high mileage with gold k&n oil filter i do my oil change every 3 months regardless of mileage truck does have alot of performance upgrades as well and is tuned by hemi fever

I’m at 170,000 mi and no tick.  Oil change with Mobil1 5w20 every 6K, Fram oil filter, and only premium gas every single time.

I have a 2015 1500 with 119000 miles and ive always had a little ticket on cold starts but now I have have a weird tick at low idle

I have a 2024 5.7 hemi....19,700 miles.  It calls for 0W-20.  I use the ultra platinum pennzoil...would it be better to switch to the 5w 30?   My 2021 ram called for 5w30...why did ram switch to the thinner oil?   I just want to be proactive to prevent any future problems right now,  My truck runs perfect

Yes Redline does help with the Hemi tick, however you will not find "5 quart bottles" for $35... Redline comes in quarts and gallons and a gallon is around $70
A Hellcat Mellings high volume oil pump is the most common preventative measure.  Using Redline oil also.
