In March 2023, a section of the JR Umeda Freight Line was moved underground. Instead of installing an underground Osaka Station, a challenging section, affectionately known as "Umeda Pass" by railway enthusiasts, was created.

While the term "pass" usually refers to a road with many steep slopes and sharp curves in mountainous areas, often found along prefectural borders, why did such a steep slope appear in the heart of the city, earning it the nickname "Umeda Pass"?
