We caught up with Mario Duplantier of Gojira during their tour in South Florida with Korn. Recently back from an unforgettable performance at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, Mario showed our host David Frangioni the drums he played during that iconic event, which he's also using on their current tour.

Mario is such a younger brother... Joe gets a chrome guitar, he gets a chrome drumset. Hilarious.

Everyone focuses on speed and stamina, which is fine, but he also puts so much creativity into his songwriting it's insane

I love Mario. He couldn't even speak english a few years ago when I met him and told me he was learning.. now he sounds like a totally different person. Good for you, Mario. One of my favorite drummers of all time. He's so inspiring. 🥁🤘🏾

One of the best if not the best drummer in the metal scene right now.

i adore how simple his setup is. And he makes it sound absolutely immense. Truly one of the greatest talent of our time.

Mario's English is getting better year by year, I love it. You can hear the enthusiasm in his talking because he can better express his playing style and his gear of choice

He’s using DW 5000’s for his kick pedals!

For Lars haters: take note of what Mario says at 6:43. Being a point of reference in arts does not necessarily imply being a technical Maestro. It’s more about inspiring future geniuses.

This is amazing!!! Mario seems like such an incredible guy. I would love to see Carter Beauford or David from Electric Callboy on here one of these times

Mario is an amazing drummer. Such an inspiration. And also a very cool guy, met him in person a few years ago in Prague.

B.S. DW 5000 are the pedals NOT Tama all the way around. They installed the Dynasync's for the interview... Besides that Mario, Gojira and Modern Drummer are awesome!

Mario has to be the least hated drummer ever. Best drummer in the world right now

Been metal drumming since 1982, been to 400 plus shows. Took my 16 year old son to his 2nd only show at our local venue to see LOG. Knew nothing of openers Gojira. After they played for like 5 minutes looked at my kid and was like wtf ? Was amazing. Not long later got to see them on the smallest stage @ Rock on the Range, here in Columbus, Ohio Snuck him backstage got great pics and conversations. We both chuckle about the Olympics. Well deserved

His approach to click tracks is the same as Mike Portnoy. Interesting…. Very talented and humble drummer. Had the chance to see them front row last year and at the end of the show, Mario came and gave us a hug. What a moment . His morbid angel shirt pays tribute to another great metal drummer Señor Pete Sandoval.
