Thank you for sharing this. Currently have a 3.18 cumulative GPA with a strong upward trend after a post bac. I contemplate whether I should have gone for a special masters program, but I have averaged a 3.8 for the last 70 units. My GPA previously was very low before my junior and senior year where I raised it. Scored a 507 MCAT with a low CARS section. Hoping the application cycle goes well.

There is a big difference between a low gpa from the top 20 undergraduate and a low gpa from the undergraduate outside the top 100.  It is not surprising that you got into a medical school.  Now if you had a low gpa from the bottom 20 undergraduate and still got into a medical school, it would be a different story.

SMp is mainly for low gpa not recoverable from a postbacc program

i don’t know if you still view your comments but could you do a video on getting into research with a low gpa?

I have a 3.38 cumulative GPA undergrad, so I am just studying for the MCAT. I know my GPA is not high, but I think there are schools that accept low GPA as long as the GPA is above 3.0.

How long did it take you to complete postbacc taking 2 classes per semester?

I got told several times this week that I will not get into medical school and to have a “robust” back up plan by professors and advisors. I also was told I was too empathetic to be MD. I am in my senior year. I had a 3.94 GPA before I transferred, and then after I transferred to UNC, I made a series of terrible decisions that landed me with a potentially 3.3 cum GPA and 3.0 science GPA by the time i graduate next semester (could be lower)

I have poor service hours. I have poor volunteer clinical hours. I do, however, work in cancer research, and I will work with my lab for at least my first gap year. I also work as an EMT and have 300+ hrs.

I want to start studying for the MCAT after this last semester, and then I hope to ace it by the end of the year. I know I should take a post-bacc and thus maybe 3 gap years, but honestly I'm scared and unsure currently.

The med school I’m interested in says a gpa that falls between 2.6-3.4 requires at least a score within the 61% percentile on the MCAT to be considered. In your opinion, do you think I should go hard on studying for the MCAT and try to apply with a stellar score, or would you recommend SMP/post bacc or would you suggest I give it a shot then post bacc as back up?

I have my undergraduate in electrical engineering with 3.7gpa and my master’s in biomedical engineering with 3.35gpa. I am almost completing my mba program in healthcare but yet to take my mcat. Do you think this profile is ok ? I am aiming for 520+

Getting is one thing. Completing is a different ball game.
