In today's episode of Ali on the Bank, I head to a local mark for an early morning session fishing the flooding tide on a very small neap.
The previous few days on the coast had been so difficult. Picking up the odd Mackerel or Gar, but failing to find a Bass. As I sat scratching my head about why that was, I didn't think to actually check what sort of tides we were on this week.
I have been so pre-occupied with simply checking when low is, and when high is, that I forgot to actually pay any attention to what sort of tide it was.
After the penny dropped about why the coast had been so quiet, I decided to not drive for miles but to head up the river with the Bombarda rig, to see if I could tame a Bass or two with a very small and slowly retrieved lure.
It was a quiet, yet successful session. Although it did end with a slight bang.... the last cast of this session turned out to be the last cast of all for my Slash Tide Thief.....

Have you ever been to Loch Ness in Scotland? I heard its super famous for the Loch Ness Monster. And have you fished in loch ness?

I've got some basic inexpensive fly gear I use just for bashing. It's freshwater but the basic premise is the same.
If you fancy it Ali, I'm more than happy to meet up and teach you some basic casting techniques and retrieval styles with it?
I'm not the most advanced fluff chucker out there, but I do enough to be able to catch.
I've got an idea/challenge for you?
Fish a tandem team of top water lure and saltwater fly? Use a popper lure that has a nose and dorsal tying on point. Fish mainline to popper nose point lure and then tie a saltwater fly on a leader to the popper dorsal point? You can use the weight of the top water lure to get the fly out there. Then you have the attractant noise of the popper and the fly gives them a choice of what to hit, depending on what they're feeding on?
It's similar to fly fishing where you fish dropper style with one or two other flues as well as your point fly.?
It could also work with a sift plastic worm on the dorsal leader?
