You need to watch Echoes live from Pompeii in the excavations - no audience . It sublime . Shows how creatively Floyd can use surroundings to enhance and exaggerate their music

I love the last track of Meddle, Echoes, one of the best music pieces i've ever heard in my life

My favorite song of all time.

Hard to describe whats going on in my head every time I listen to it.

Loud, hard, HEAVY and yes, evil...

And oh, so beautiful.

I like the way they insert part of the Doctor Who (1963) - Original Theme music in to the tune. The original Doctor Who theme music, composed by Ron Grainer and realized by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, is a significant piece of electronic music. It was created in 1963 and is one of the first electronic signature tunes for television.

In october 1971 i was listening to the radio and the host said this is a song of the new pink floyd album called one of these days. I listened and went out the next day and bought the album. All because of this track. In those days band's were coming out with tremendous albums and songs. What a time.

You definitely need to check out the live from Pompeii version of Echoes, classic early Floyd

Cool that you caught the dual bass tone aspect. Roger played the first bass that had dead strings on it, then David came in on the other ear with a bass that had fresh strings on it. The lyrics are in fact a threat towards certain DJs & journalists who didn't understand the band, and authored outdated hit-pieces on them for not being pop-centric. Drummer Nick Mason spoke them quickly at a high pitch, then they slowed the pace to make them menacing.
