I just rolled up on this video today, if no one answered the pressing question yet, the 1st digit after the dash is the size/series of tool holder, 0XA being the 0xx, AXA=1xx, BXA=2xx, etc. the middle digit is the compound assembly such as the knurler and the tool post itself, the 3rd digit is the tool style, xx1=straight tool, xx4=boring bar, xx7=cutoff, etc etc. after a year I assume you worked this out but even though your lathe is a 10", and you could barely get that 1/4" shank to center up you need to go down to the 100 (AXA) as that would give more travel up/down.
250-000: 250 is the type of post and 000 is the size of the post, 250-100, 250-200 and so on. Regarding the post size and type, if it like the one you have, says 250-222, its a size 2 wedge tool post. A piston tool post at same size is 250-202 and so on. This means you can use all 250-2xx tool holders for both types of tool posts. Hope it make any sense.
thanks u cleared up a few questions before i buy a post , trouble is not having access to a milling machine , only thing i can think of is to take off the slide and take it and the block to a shop ... more $$$$ , my lathe is about the size or maybe a little smaller so the axa sounds like the go
There's a shortcut to finding a quick-change toolpost. Stay away from the internet it's the information cow-path (watch your step). Go to your local machine tool dealer and bring the make, model and year of your lathe. Your machinery dealer will help you find sonething that will fit the lathe and your personal needs. It's much easier to ask questions when you're talking to a real person rather than a keyboard.
I had the same issue with my gooving tool as well. But I was able to lower the tool holder further by turning the top compound slide. Also it's possible to find someone on ebay mass producing T-nuts. The Southbend 9" inparticular is easy to find one for.
Your not the last person! I just bought a beautiful 1900-1920 lathe and im using that exact tool holder still. Lol. And you had the same questions I did. I just realized the other day that its lucky i just bought a mill so I can fix this issue when mine gets here. Lol
