The final stop of our "Encountering Jiangnan Series" takes us to Nanjing, where we begin our journey with the city's culinary delights. We visited the distinctive "Nanjing Da Pai Dang" (Nanjing Grand Restaurant), enjoying a retro dining environment with waiters bustling about. We sampled many Nanjing specialties, exploring some of the city's must-try flavors.

After dinner, we headed to one of Nanjing's most iconic tourist attractions—the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai River Scenic Area. While the Confucius Temple area is now highly commercialized, the Qinhuai River at dusk, with its illuminated banks and passing pleasure boats, remains a truly representative Nanjing night view.

Besides exploring the Confucius Temple and enjoying the Qinhuai River night view, this episode also takes you to the China Imperial Examination Museum and the Jiangnan Examination Hall, learning about the history of the ancient Chinese imperial examination system, the examinations themselves, and the Jiangnan Examination Hall. The area around the Confucius Temple also includes attractions like Wuyi Lane and the Qinhuai River pleasure boats. If this is your first time planning a self-guided trip to Nanjing, this area offers a concentrated collection of historical and cultural sites.

We spent about two and a half days in Nanjing this time. More installments of our Nanjing series will share insights into Nanjing's cuisine, Laomendong, the Nanjing City Wall, and many other worthwhile places to visit.
