Even just watching this video was a nerve-wracking experience. The physical effort that went into creating this man-made feature is almost beyond belief. And the videographer deserves every credit for presenting us with this footage. At my age, I will settle for watching it over and over . . .
This is as close as I will ever get to climbing up those stairs. I have a fear of heights, this does not look feasible for me. So thanks a lot for this.
I went to Skellig Michael in 2017. It remains one the most amazing places I’ve been in the world. I go there in my mind when I wake up in the night and make the climb as I fall Back to sleep. This video helps me make the images in my mind more clear. Thanks for posting it!
I heard that monks on Skellig Michael in the years 800s spent a large part of their day in prayer for Europe amd then sent very strong missionaries to Europe. This island seems to have been a spiritual stronghold.
Extremely well done; clear images without resorting to pointless zoom shots; appropriate music and no one "posing" for the camera. I admire your fitness level and that you could operate the camera all the while in an environment that offers wonderful opportunities to partake in unaided flying lessons!
Thank you for sharing. We ascended in early September 2021 and were thankful that it was a little sunny after an evening rain. Definitely a climb to take serious.
Did this climb a year ago; it was wonderful. We had a lovely day, weatherwise; dry, mild not windy. A wonderful experience. We used trekking poles, which helped a lot; we are in our 70's, so the security of the poles was great.
who ever you are this was a fantastic video, shows how scary it is climbing up there, thank you who ever you are, it is an incredible place, the Monks really were astonishing people,
To be able to go back in time and meet such incredible people, the Monks, see how they did such things would be fantastic, yours St. Malachi
Thinking of Skellig Michael these days-it was the most exhilirating odyssey I have completed. It was over 20 years ago-I'm older now so I won't try it again. We lucked out and had exceptional weather. God was good to us. The boat ride was choppy so we held on tight to the sides. The ascent is daunting but I kept going because I sensed the Spirit of God waiting at the top.
When I saw the statue @2:41, the woman who was turned into a plliar of salt by looking backwards (as my heart was at that time) came to my mind. That she was whipped into her current shape by the wind and thrashing rains was symbolic to me and opened my thoughts to knowing I must embrace God again. Not shown in this clip, there is at the very top a cathedral like window but open and craggy and made entirely of stone. It was there I remember looking out at the vast open sea, fluttering with gannets and puffins. I could hear their cries mimicking the cries of my soul and I received my calling to return to the God of my childhood and my culture.
It is fortunate Ireland keeps this sacred place very protected and I am grateful I could go-I needed the memories of the seemingly impossible climb for my life as I experience it today.
Moving forward next in my hopes is The Santiago walk in Spain-if shortened. I'm not dead yet praise be to God-by Grace alone I'm very much alive.
Thank you for sharing a lovely memory. Now back to hermit mode.🙏
Went there prob 5 years ago on a vacation. Was beautiful tee shirt weather and blue sky. This brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks so much for the up load.
Skellig Michael is the most fascinating site I could think of. Even if I were younger and fitter, those stairs would have been too much for me. So grateful thanks for this amazing video !
Managed to get on to the island in August. My second attempt as last year the weather conditions were too bad. Beautiful experience. Difficult to imagine how the monks survived, especially through the winter. Thanks for the video.
