When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man.

Just straight up one of the greatest scenes in any superhero movie to date

21 years later still the best scene in a Spiderman movie.

I remember I was a kid and my mom would always call me to watch Spider man whenever it was running on TV. She knew how much I enjoyed it. Now Im 30 years old and this scene somehow gave me tears. Love Tobey, love Spidey!

Tobey Maguire will always be the greatest spider-man!

Some people still have the audacity too say we only like these Raimi movies due to nostagial, lol. This is still peak to this day. Best action scene at any super hero movie to date and easily one of the best super hero films of all time.

No other Spider-Man movie came close.

Imagine if this happened during Tom Holland's timeline, the passengers would have taken multiple pictures of him, but these people protected him

In this day and age there would 100% be someone on that train that would leak his identity.

Tobey's Spiderman is 1000% pure authenticism. Keeping the spirit, despite of loss, pain and anger. I felt all of the punches he threw and took, it was just sold that perfectly.

One of my all-time favorite movies

I came back after watching Brand new day. Tom is great, but he could never…the level of authenticity and presence alone. This is spider man 1️⃣

While I do appreciate later movies trying to get creative with Spider-Man’s fighting (even having Andrew’s act like an actual spider), I can’t help but just find satisfaction in Tobey’s no-nonsense fighting. No acrobatics, no webbed weapons, just good ‘ol brawling.
