Hope to be having many battles in the Caterham with you this season, Tony. I really can't remember the last time iRacing added a non-formula car that got me excited to race it.

7:55 this double past though 🤌✅

The most fun car in IRacing. Slow and slidy! FUN!

Agreed, I think the Academy races should be 20 and the 420R should be 25. But they are both super fun!

It took me way to long to realise this was the Academy car and not the 420r, it seemed to handle pretty well around here compared to snetterton.

🐓

I don't think lap 1 is your fault really, just a racing incident really. Both make split second decisions.

I can't understand making these 15 minute races.  I think they need to go either way, either longer, or down to 12 minutes and make the races every 30 minutes.  I think allowing people to run them back to back might help participation rather than waiting 27 minutes for the next race.

omg this is going to be horrible with low IR drivers... the slip does make them think they are quick.

I thought a moment on buying this car, and well, decided to buy a Super Formula instead :)

I don't think lap 1 was on you. What were you supposed to do? You'd stayed in your lane, he switched to where you were.

I remembered while watching this as I noticed you having difficulty finding a good pace the first few laps esp entering the turns, that I was able to get more consistently faster laps by changing when I down shifted.

Mostly I would downshift at the most conservative time (potentially a bit slower), but if I noticed I needed a bit more breaking I'd downshift a bit early, and if I was understeering coming into the corner I'd downshift even earlier.
Something I had to be aware if is if downshifting to get more breaking, that COULD mean I would be getting too much turn in, so I'd have to compensate by straightening out the wheel a tad (most of my racing is against the AI w/ engine damage turned off, so blowing up the engine would be a risk if downshifted too early and again prob different for every car)

If I could more accurately time my breaking and anticipate my speed by how good a drive I got out of the previous corner and by how much boost I had from the draft (or slowed down), I could go faster by always downshifting to get the maximum breaking and turn in.

It didn't appear to me you wer e doing either of those shifting techniques🫤. Although it's a lot harder to do if you don't drive that same car most of the time and most road cars' gear spacing is not ideal for racing, something I think is especially true w/ the Caterham, so that also makes downshifting to get the right reaction for each gear (since the gear spacing means downshifting at a different rpm for each gear in most road cars).🥹
