Which medicine from the 1970s do you remember being taken without worry, and what memory of being sick, cared for, or following a parent’s advice comes back when you think about it now?

The cough and cold medicines we got over the counter in the 1970s really helped treat the symptoms of a cold or flu.

We need these drugs today, they actually work compared to meds we have now.

Contact c was a magic capsule. Completely knocked the flu outa you for 12 hours. No symptoms of Illness for a day.

Why should we believe anything we take today is any more safe and effective?

Let's be clear and keep it real here: You can't get 75% of these, or at least have to get an act of congress to obtain them, because idiots abused them, or meth heads use them as ingredients to make their product. I've been inconvenienced and made to jump through hoops all my life because of the stupidity of those types, and still am.

I took Paregoric for menstrual cramps. I took cough medicine when I was sick. I'm 68 and still alive. I have learned that everything has risks. Don't eat this! Don't drink that!

There are always going to be people who are prone to addiction and abuse. Punishing everyone for others weakness is wrong. I have spinal nerve damage. I have to go to a pain management doctor every month to get pain medication. Medicare does not pay the entire bill. It costs me $100 every month to sign in, get weighed, have a 15-30 second visit and then get a prescription. The government has such tight control over the pain medication that I have to wait until the day before I run out to get my new prescription filled. They make me feel like a drug addicted criminal. The pharmacy has been unable to fill my prescription because they don't keep it in stock. It is crazy.

They pulled darvocet and darvon and now we have people addicted to oxy and fentanyl. Hmmmmm

It’s a miracle some of us survived our childhoods.

Medicine used to be about making patients feel better. Now it's taboo to feel better.

Correction amphetamines were handed out in the 1960's.

Talking about food - I was born in 1965, then when I went to school [and we walked no matter the weather]
no kid was allergic to any food, no one locked doors/windows, left the keys in the car which were
station wagon or Thunderbird and we never ever thought to ask for a ride somewhere,
And the popular saying was "wait till your father gets home" We went home when street lights came on, knew phone numbers in our heads and TV's remote control had a wire from the box to the TV.
I could go on but if you grew up in the 70-80's you are smiling right now. So Be Safe Everyone <><><><>

As far as I know, Benadryl and Vicks Vapo Rub are still common and legal.

Anyone remember Doan’s pills for back pain and Vanquish for headaches?

@bennykelevra6151 8 months ago

They mention Quaaludes for sleep and then later mention Methaqualone for anxiety. Quaaludes are Methaqualone and I don't remember it ever being prescribed for anxiety. It was changed to schedule one not schedule i.
I'm old and fed up with things being banned because some people abuse it. Some people are always going to abuse a substance to get a buzz. They might as well provide those people with something they can use instead of always banning things for everyone. The way it is now people with chronic pain can't get anything to help them, it's absolutely barbaric.

The drugs today suck.

@LisaJohnson-h1f 8 months ago

You forgot to mention Mecurochrome. We doused this on every cut or scrape when I was a kid. We liked it because it didn't burn when you applied it like Merthiolate did. However, both contained mercury!

What I don't get quit testing meds on animals. Leave the old ones at the pharmacy that worked 4 people. The government is placing all this fears & stress to get people scared as hell over all these side effects it's so dam ridiculous I think we should go back it makes way better sense than these dangerous drugs from FDA & Governments nowadays. Look up today's meds & the then look up older meds weight it out yourselves. Id rather stix to herbs. I can't rget it rght now until I get my check then I'm goin 2 get medical marijuana the hell with these danger fatal drugs. All the tax payers money wasted thr all these meds that gets thrown & remove thr decades doesn't make no sense. It's time 4 Americans to rise!!!!

I have CP...my legs hurt all the time. In the 70's I would take 2 Darvons in the morning before going to school. Walk all morning without pain. I would take 2 more at lunch time Walk all afternoon... Go home clean the house no pain! I would give anything to have some Darvon

I've broken a thermometer or two so I could get the little silver blob out and play with it. If you tried to pin it down, it would squirt right out from under your finger. My body probably died from mercury poisoning years ago but my brain is too stupid to realize it.
