Abbie's First Grouse | Springer Spaniel Hunting Oregon

Abiqua's first ruffed grouse and my 9 year-old son's first gig as a cameraman in the dense timber of the western Oregon Cascades.
We put up 4 birds. Only one in the bag. Our limit was right in front of us but we left it in the woods.
Abbie is an English Springer Spaniel from Yellowstone Springers in Montana. This is her first hunting season and she's learning on the fly as she runs through thick Cascade cover, making flushes, and figuring out how to be a gun-dog. My young son was right there with a GoPro to capture the moments and learn how this kind of hunting actually works: tight shooting windows, noisy wings, shotgun safety, and a young dog figuring it out in real time.
If you like family hunts, flushing dogs, and honest days afield - stick around. Subscribe for more hunting, fishing and outdoor fun with family.
