Love him or hate him, Carl Macek worked magic combining three separate anime series into a (relatively) coherent single, long, epic plot line for Western audiences. As a 10 year old in the mid 80s watching Robotech it was every bit as epic and as much of a space opera as Star Wars was to me.
Mornings before School back in 1985+ were so awesome. Voltron, Robotech, Tranzor Z (Mazinger) what great times and set you up for a great day. I really wish Bandai would put out a line of Robotech these days, I miss the models.
What a treat to find this today!! 😁 I'm definitely looking forward to watching more of these episodes. I haven't seen it since it aired on TV back in the 80s!
Honestly, no cartoon that I saw growing up had such an impact on me like Robotech. I was 11 in '85 and I remember not missing a single episode. I even remember my dad watching a few episodes with me because he thought it was more like a telenovela then the cartoon.😅. Transforming mecha, aliens, musical acts, romance, add strange for a cartoon... main characters dying, this cartoon had everything. Everybody loves Macross, and that's hard to argue. But I always liked the New Generation as a kid.
These were way better then Dainas story maxes daughter..the second ones...these 3rd ones with the bikes and the Alpha and beta fighters were awesome...Scott n Lancer were bad ass so was rook and rand.. lol and lunk fixing all their stuff bad ass mechanic bad forget names like 40.something years ago lol
The story is nice, but I wish they didnt use these ridiculous numbers of fighters, because that would have made it easier to focus on the drama of a few characters. Also ... what is the point of having missile based weapons? They travel slower than energy and distances in space are HUGE ... AND - as the USA is proving right now - missiles are a FINITE resource and thus a bad choice.
