Thank you for the feedback on the video. Just a heads up I made two minor errors, a mistake on the propeller diameter. It was 3.460 meters. Not 3460 meters. And the aircraft in the colour footage were B-17s and B-24s not B-25s.

Kurt Tank built a rugged bird designed for multiple contractor production and war. Then he took this design and made even better variations.

Still my favorite aircraft of all time. Its every bit the war horse that tank had in mind. The A8 and D9 are my favorite series.

I absolutely loved flying the "Dora."

The moment that stood out was how the Fw 190’s raw power and agility completely shocked Allied pilots when it first appeared. You can almost feel the shift in the air war as they realized they were suddenly up against a predator unlike anything before.

Awesome video. I really enjoyed the cranking of the FW-190 by the 2 guys.
I found myself anticipating it cranking and then was met by the awesome sound of the engine.
Thank you for such a great video on one of my favorite planes from WW2.

Great footage mate.

Great video.  That one FW 190 almost dug its nose in on takeoff.  The pilot made a good recovery.

Brilliant programme thank you for your time in putting this together 😊

thanks for video.....

The narration, information, pictures(especially the degree of quality but even more importantly relevance) is top notch

Thanks again!❤

Oh yeah,,, don't get to close to the fan.😊

Very well-done concise and informative presentation, sir.  You Aussie lads down there seem to have it down pat towards WWII air-war history content – much appreciated!

What was also especially appreciated were the many rare pics and footage of the earlier marks of the fighter (many of which I've never come across before); most notably, the early armament-array [presumably] of V2 (at 4:53, and at 9:41) – an exceedingly rare image (of that particular model) of which I thought I'd never come across in my remaining lifetime (a Big 'Thank-You' for providing that!).

However though, it would've been apt to include at least a cursory run-through of the 'Anton's sub-variants: i.e. when (and at what fronts) they were specifically introduced, their many armament and field-kit (Rüstsätze) upgrades (and perhaps its paired-up fighter/bomber 'Mistel' parasite air-to-ground weapons project), [notable] unit histories, and perhaps [at least] some mention of the fearsome Sturmböcke units flying for the Reichsverteidigung over Nazi-held Germany.  As well – and I can perfectly understand the rather 'incomplete' historiographic picture of the FW 190's influence on the Russian Front – perhaps a separate chapter could've been included and briefly discussed over the evolutionary versatility of the fighter's utility (particularly, the F and G Schlachtflugzeug/JaBo Rei versions – and why it gradually replaced the Ju 87 'Stuka') as a valuable ground-assault platform there in support of the Heer's advance into Soviet Russia, where the FW 190's sphere of influence perhaps shined most over any major front within the broader scope of the global conflict.

Moreover, I believe you erred on when exactly the FW 190 entered operational service on the Eastern Front.  It was in fact September 1942 (not '41, as stated at 27:43), during the early phase of the great clash at Stalingrad.

Regarding the notorious [1943] Schweinfurt raid (at 33:25), mere mention of the P-51 Mustang's lack of range is rather irrelevant, as it was not [yet] optimized for long-range escort service, nor was it readily available then (towards the aerial campaign) until late December of that year.  Also, the B-17 Flying Fortresses (over Nazi-held Germany) nominally operated at upwards of ~25,000 feet, not down below at 13,000 feet (stated at 34:57), where they'd certainly be subject to being shot out of the skies, likened to wandering geese foraging for '88' Flak-battery nests!  I'm sure you meant 30,000 feet[?], where even at 20,000 feet the FW 190A's performance began to noticeably deteriorate.

As far as the later models of the FW 190 (particularly, the 'Dora' series) being the 'best of the bunch' of WWII (at 37:25), I think that that has to be taken with a big dose of salt.  One could argue till the Third World War as to which was the best fighter (in terms of 'what?', exactly) of the war (Personally, I think both the P-51 Mustang and Vought F4U Corsair were equally best overall.); but realistically, the 'Dora' – thrown into the fray basically as a 'test-bed' interim project (from the outset), until work on the Ta 152 project finally [permanently] replaced it – simply didn't quite cut it with the rest of the Western Allies best (in particular, lacking the [logistical] resources needed to suffice in its new role; i.e. its [lack of] MW 50 supply, qualified/trained pilots, etc. to name but a few); nor, as Kurt Tank himself would adamantly testify, as being the purpose-built high-altitude interceptor it was meant to be.  In fact, the 'Dora' (D-9) was rushed into production (as well as the later Ta 152) so expediently, that its ['at-altitude'] performance ultimately was no much better than the 'Anton's (A-8) performance, such that virtually most of its aerial engagements (over the skies of Germany) were limited to ground-support and/or airfield-cover [protection] duty, rather than of [its intended] bomber-interception duty.  True, the D-9 'Dora' could have been one of the best fighters of the war, but by 1944, time itself really was the biggest threat to both the RLM/Luftwaffe and to Hitler's Nazi Germany ever regaining the initiative again, either towards new [wonder-] weapons development, desperate last-ditch battle-strategies, miraculous grandiose machinations, or of even suing for [unfathomable] peace itself.

Lastly (at 44:23), I'm sure you meant 'GM-1' boost ('Göring Mischung' [mixture]; essentially, 'laughing gas'), not 'GW-1' – which was an advanced injection-system (first used on the Me 109E version [and similar in concept to MW 50 injection), simply to increase high-altitude performance of aerial engines earlier in the war.

Other than that, I think you did a pretty decent job discussing the basic run-down of the FW 190, albeit, if told towards a broader 'dilettante' perspective regarding the merits of the fighter's strengths, while (perhaps [unintentionally]) abstaining from any of its [inherent] weaknesses.  No doubt, the 190 was a great craft for its time, and I – certainly no professed 'war expert' on the subject myself – thinking outside the box: No one piece of written work can quite possibly cover every [minute] detail of the FW 190's historical accuracy, nor extensive unit-service history; and as with the 'Stuka' dive-bomber, the fighter was indeed no less than legendary, including to the many past-and-present historians who still study its vaunted past, but altogether with its vast numbers and inconspicuous flaws, the 'Butcher Bird' deserves as well especial 'merit' not only to the designer himself, but to the failure of the Nazi regime's power to wrest its will on the world at large ...

And that's the way I see it!

Great vid🎉 it's nice to see the development of these old war machines ❤❤❤

The most underrated plane of WWII!

Great video.

Great story!

Excellent presentation about what was in my opinion the best fighter of WW2 ,, certainty the most apt knick name.
