I love the idea of 90s Christopher Lambert thinking a script wasn't good enough.

I remember even as a kid who loved the 1st movie not being able to get through this movie. Will gladly listen to hear you commentate it.

Impressive not having an ad every 2 mins guys❤

You've given me an excuse to rewatch this guilty pleasure of a movie 😅

Ten-year-old me saw this like five times in a row at the cinema, not because I liked it, but there was a heatwave on and the cinema had air conditioning.

So happy to find a new commentary featuring Rob! Great stuff.. doesn't matter what the film is i could honestly listen to the two of you discussing the weather for two hours.

Same crappy CG from the era? Spawn! You should a Spawn commentary!

I’ve never seen it, but I’m ready to suffer through it with Ollie and Rob. Finish him!!!

”Do cinematographers make great directors?”

DPs (the well established ones anyway) don’t have a good overall track record making the move to the directors chair. Gordon Willis, John Seale, Anthony B. Richmond, Janusz Kamiński, Michael Seresin, Dean Cundey and John Bailey are renowned cinematographers, but all those guys were one and done after directing total duds.

Michael Chapman and Dean Semler directed a couple of forgettable pictures before returning to DP’ing full time.

Andrzej Bartkowiak, Freddie Francis, Haskell Wexler, Jack Cardiff, William A. Fraker, Jan de Bont, Barry Sonnenfeld and Andrew Davis had varying degrees of commercial and or critical success as directors. Nicholas Roeg was known for directing (largely overrated) arthouse films.

So to answer your question: no, not really. They excel best at directing action movies rather than something like character driven material as Rob rightly pointed out.

I could listen to you two talk about repotting plants and still find it utterly enjoyable!

It's such a shame that the third "Mortal
Kombat" film called "Devastation"
(which was to resurrect Johnny Cage and
have him join the others as they go up
against the new antagonist: Quan Chi and
a resurrected Shang Tsung) never got
made due to Hurricane Katrina destroying
the sets in 2005.

This is on the Mount Rushmore of bad movies. ❤

Love the first MK movie, never seen anything that came after, certainly not in its entirety. This commentary with you lads is certainly a way to swallow that pill and get familiarised with this… work of art.  I'm not a super big fan of fighting games, but MK has a special place in my heart.
The soundtrack in the first one rocks. "Techno Syndrome" is awesome, but "Halcyon + On + On" by Orbital is my silent fav. Great tune.

Thanks for another commentary!

Genuinely one of my favourite movies of all time.

MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

I knew they were going to talk about it. One month after MKII came out.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation is what happens when 9 year old's play karate on a thirty million dollar budget.

Have you guys done a commentary for Jackie Chan's "Who Am I"? I'd love a listen of that.

This movie is the Plan 9 of the 90's. I knew it was a step down even as a kid, but I still loved it! Such a mess but I can still have fun with it in an MST3K-riffing kind of way. Don't know how you can watch this and not laugh your ass off.

Pretty much every line read, edit, plot point, character moment and half the dance-fights are so bafflingly goofy... But I'd argue this makes the movie a lot more entertaining as an adult with more experience with good/bad films under their belt. That soundtrack still slaps though.

Didn’t expect this morning that I would spend 5 € renting this crap today. 😊
