My father was a Captain in the RAMC with the walking wounded when the japanese invaded Burma.

The forgotten army of very brave men

Hard and tough men for sure

This war documentary is a masterpiece of all time!

Hats off to my dear departed Uncle Jack who was a Captain in 5th Punjab - and there for both the retreat from, and the later victory in, Burma. The nicest, gentlest, most unassuming man I ever met. Hard to believe he was there but, all his work post-war with the Burma Star Association convinced me otherwise.

When the English guy said "can't" I recalled what my mom used to say to us kids, and what her mom would tell her when she said could not do something. She would say to us "can't died in a manure pile". In other words, your more capable than you think.

I am delightful to see the battle of Imphal for the very first time , heartful thanks for the precious video from Imphal (Manipur)

Much respect to these guys ❤️❤️

thank you it was great

My farther two burma stars Harry Powell Stephenson commando

Nice to see British troops wearing the Aussie Slouch Hat in Burma. Salute to the brave.

🎉

Parts of Burma still a battle zone
In 2021 according to reports

I notice an awful lot of unacknowledged Australian slouch hats.

You can tell this is a US made film; although there are the briefest glimpses of Brits and Indians carrying Bren guns and Mk 5 Sten guns, you'd almost think that the British Empire forces were exclusively armed with Thompson SMGs and American BARs. I guess if the Lee-Enfield rifle wasn't so ubiquitous (over 5 million made in WW2), some M1 Garands would be taking a bow.

There was absolutely no shortage of British-made small arms in the Burma campaign; the Mk 5 Sten was a competent, reliable weapon - and much lighter than the Thompson.

Battle line shows both sides.  Not commonly seen film - recently.  First - Burma; Second - Germany.  Great Stuff.  Thanks.

India raised 6M volunteers to fight the axis. The largest volunteer army in history.  The forgotten XIV was 1.2M strong - 65% Indian volunteers. 20% British and 16% African. The largest single Army in the world and the most mixed. Brilliantly led by Slim whose superlative leadership inflicted the largest defeat on the Japanese in history to that date. The Japanese 18th army was literally destroyed at Imphal Kohima. It is considered the greatest battle in British history . Indians fought voluntarily for India. The training and experience of that magnificent army shaped the history of Asia and played a massive part in ending the appalling atrocities inflicted on other countries by militarism and brutality that was the Japanese empire in 1944/5.  Kohima was an extraordinary battle and turning point of the Second World War and the history of Asia. It is so little understood except by the people of the many nations that formed the forgotten 14th who defended India and through a simple but very brave plan , destroyed a 150,000 man army and then went on destroy the Japanese in Burma and open up the Burma road to ensure that chiang could be supplied and defeat the 1M Japanese army in china. One hell of an achievement.

Gosh, Stilwell's general low profile (dare I say, insignificance) here is a real post-war thorn in American flesh. Vinegar Joe should be remembered for his work on finishing the Ledo Road through northern Burma -a vital link to continued resupply of Chiang's Nationalist Chinese forces. Strong Chinese action against the Japanese relieved pressure in US forces in the Pacific and it also supported the nationalists against Mao's Communist Chinese forces. These were all predominantly American policy initiatives. The British were much less interested in the Ledo Road than they were about recovering Burma (with its oil and natural resources) and protecting India.

Stilwell directly commanded a small US ground force in Burma. He had very poor relations with the USAAF. He never commanded British forces (he was Mountbatten's subordinate in SEATO) and, as the chief military adviser (only) to Chiang, he never directly commanded Chinese forces either. And, as a result of being unable to get on with Chiang (and possibly Mountbatten) he got fired.

America's huge victory in the far-East was in the Pacific. Victory in Burma is a British Indian one.

Yes And mk3 smle and you forgot the kiwis and the Nepalese and the other countries the same as the narrator fyi my father was there and he said it best he was part of the forgotten army ,forgotten by everyone except themselves who should be remembered the Kohima memorial says it all           When you go home tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave our today .I don’t forget because my dad was there as do my children but as my dad said everyone else as forgotten them

You have to hand it to these 1930s elitists. They got all these young men to die on foreign soil.
For an empire which was doomed anyway.
Bankers from all over the west were the only winners.
Lower middle class got nothing. No money. No land. No help after the war. No glory. Most times wife moved on. Years of ptsd. Abused and forgotten.
Child slavery. Destroyed lives , homes , towns and cities.
And so it go's on. Iranians dying. Russians dying protecting  russian speaking people from terrorists.
Young Americans on foreign soil AGAIN dying for isreals expansion.
Palestinians murdered bombed and massacred. Their land transforming into a playground for foreigners.
Good is found in the lower classes. Evil is owned and operated by elite who know what's best.

I've read history books from 1800s Europe trying to keep these " vampire elete " who rape and kill , also mutilating just to feel power over innocence.
This evil has withstood hundreds of years of percicution ,  creeping around , hiding in the shadows. They know who they are and don't care. Protected by threats of torture or death.
I remember reading transcripts from german generals who conquered france in a matter of weeks. So fast they surrounded the evil ones there was no escape.
Many " vampires " could not escape , they didn't have time to destroy the " evidence , the names , the secret society's of those who felt themselves " above the law".
Names and secret society's from all over the world came very close to the " hand of God ". But , propaganda and lies gave the illusion freedoms are under attack. The elite turned to the lower middle classes. Jailing those who refused and protected their own children.
God be with the Persians,  The Russian Soldiers , the innocent Americans , Canadian soldiers. Soldiers who signed up for something they quickly learn feels very wrong. God will forgive you.
May God protect innocent Muslim children who are so innocent they no nothing better.
In Jesus name , protect innocent isrealis who are duped into war against people they would otherwise think equal. But are brainwashed into a means that doesn't include them in the end.
                           AMEN

Watching the Japanese march through mud in the jungle hauling their equipment while starving,  I realize I would be good for a couple of hundred yards and then would just lay down and die.
The Brits living on hardtack and bully beef sounds almost as bad.  Asian jungles, Russian winters and African deserts.
I think I'd be like... "I think I'll wait to fight in France."
