‘71…….The best year!

I am getting a bus this week, I cannot wait to do this to mine! Thanks for sharing!

Wish you were closer to Altoona Pennsylvania! I'd totally pay you to put a sub motor in my 79' bus!

That is the greatest restoration Little Miss Sunshine VW with Subaru engine swaps. The Little Miss Sunshine cast happy to see this.

That was a heck of a lucky find, I wish I had some. I live in PA and have been looking for a decent platform start with for the last few years. Everything I find is Swiss cheese or has been in an accident/burned up and the seller is asking top dollar for. One day I’ll find mine.  Your bus turned out beautifully bro thank you for making this video. Peace out and VW for life!!

nice job  there is something supercoolmon the Subaru Boxer Exaust notes ! I am a VW Air Cooled guy myself but the reality is  most specically  for today’s driving in a Bus you need that horsepower  to get the hell out of the way safely  in the flow of traffic  I hope to wind up with one myself and do the same thing  I’ve painted a few vehicles myself although for   Painting fine finishes. Now I shootveveryhingbthrough a HVLP Turbine Spray unit  my brand is a CampbellHausfield they don’t sell as a kit any longer  but the parts individually are all Available. Honestly IMO most of the Turbine Units  available today are relatively close in performance to each other  the Advantange to my older CampbellHausefield is it came with a all Aluminum Spray Gun and Siphon paint Canistr IMO it  cleans  the easiest  than other materials I use Solvents and Inexpensively wire brush sets from harbor Freight and it allows me to scrub the hell out of the entire unit  thanks for the thorough explanation on the install I agree on the Diagnostic  idea  some of the big AutoParts stores will hook your vehicle up and give you the readout

I’m a fan of VW Aircooled motors  and VW Vehicles in general , but i must confess  the Subaru Boxer Exhaust notes  do sound nice ! Especially  super Cool in a old VW. that allows that Vehicle to  be used  on todays Highways and Traffic it makes it all.  Pretty Sweet !

NICE NICE WOW

Excelente  conversión, gracias por compartir, saludos desde Costa Rica

Amazing, great work bro

in regards to the Ground issues   why not just add a Marine Buss Bar in the engine compartment that  has. a  Excellent Ground  and allows you to  hook up multiple  grounds   i’ve done that on  all of the 17 or 18 Boats. i’ve owned and maintained   then you always have reliable     places to hook up anything  Smart  move on the Kennedy  AdaptercPlates. they have been around   since the 60s and 70s  and  have. always   been Engineering AircooledVolkswagen  products  i do love the excitement. you  have on this   Conversion and I totally get it true Story  a former Girlfreind  had parents that bought a early70s  Bus and cruised the Country in  it for years ! She was placed in a basket  between the front seats  and  her Dad thought something was wrong on the Vehicle because it randomly would pop out of  4 th gear  he stopped in every dealership in the Country and they kept telling him nothing is wrong with it  he did figure out the issue.  whenever the radio  found a good station with music the baby would  kick her feet to the beat  and every once in a while she could  hit the gear shifter !

Awesome

Nice. Thanks

I have a 71 with a 1600tp, it's been in nearly 20 years runs great never let me down but I just really like the idea of the scooby lump and a bit of modern engineering😊

Brian, I just found your channel and I’m hooked.  Thank you for your great content and the honest way you present it.

top speed?

What you do about defrosting front windshield?

/Subbed

This was fantastic.

Omg lot of work , I’d like one as my daily 🏆

Excellent work, sir. That's a cherry looking bus. "Primo loaf" we used to say in the old days ('cause a bus is shaped like a loaf of bread). One thing I would mention is that you consider the possibility of installing thermo switches on the radiator fans. Internal combustion engines like to run at a normal operating temperature (the temp indicated on the thermostat). It is best that they warm up to this temp quickly. There are particular compounds produced during the warmup phase that cause greater engine wear, cylinder scoring and whatnot. I don't remember what the compounds are called - maybe silica something or other. I read about it on Kevin Cameron's column @ Cycle World like 25 years ago. But it stuck in the head because it made an impression on the consciousness. And in the early days I had a habit of removing thermostats from air cooled VW engines and fixing the cooling regulators wide open on the fan shroud. These compounds cease to be at normal operating temps. Plus, if an engine is overcooled the pistons are expanding while the case may not be. This also causes a bit of interference and excessive wear. All this stuff I learned by doing the same things you are doing. Then later people came forward and imparted some info to help increase our vast knowledge. Engines like the temp just right - not too hot or too cool. I gotta say I'm really impressed with the work that you and any helpers did on that fine looking and sounding VW Van. Cheers.
