I had two y pipes crack on me so I went to true dual pipes. Doc is right they do fail and often.

A lot of money to replace a poorly designed exhaust from the factory

Doc you are the best!!!!! How about a video on high mileage touring bikes (2010 FLHTK with 100K+) things to really look for and inspect. Thanks Doc and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!

My 1997 Road King cracked at the welded seam.

When i parked my 07 Ultra Classic for the winter, i noticed the crack right there the Doc saying.
Im gonna weld it back together. Think loose slip-on clamps have done mine.
Thanks again Doc!

Man I sure do like the 100th anniversary bikes.

Thanks, I had no idea that these brackets can cause so much trouble if the get loose. I’ll be checking from now on.

That bike on your lift is a replica of mine. It cracked too.

Doc, I had an 07 RK that cracked at that crossover pipe section.  At the time the crossover pipe was just over $200. So I spent a little extra and went with V&H true duals.  Best & well spent money.  That pipe design for 07-08 was just a terrible design. Thanks for the info.

I replaced my 07 Ultra's exhaust before it even touched with a Rinehart true dual. It didn't hold up either so it got replaced by Vance & Hines. Also reinforced the hold down bracket. Still have to keep an eye on it along with every thing else on it. As you should. By the way I found a cruise control module, different number but same, at Boulder Choppers in Henderson. Great outside the box thinkers. Thanks for all that you do Doc.

Also something to look for when buying too🇺🇸

Not to cast aspersions, but the cracked Y pipe has been a known problem long before ‘07. I had one break on my ‘03 Road King.

Not a good situation to have . Prices of everything is getting out of control for the everyday people .

Doc Harley.. Great advice sir. I have had to replace a few of those and even welded a couple.. Customers hate to hear that news for sure..

I have TIG welded several of these "Y" pipes. The last one required almost 40 minutes of welding as it was really broken up. After welding I heat it up with a torch and stick it in sand to slow cool and to reduce stresses. The important next step is to attach the exhaust system loosely on the bike and than start tightening from the engine back, again to reduce stresses in the system.

But Doc, isn’t that a 2003 Anniversary Edition bike?

I wish I lived near LCHD so that I could spend money there to thank them for the PSA from Doc.  Doc I thank you for your information and your kind ways.  A combination of education, information and prevention every time.  Thank you.

More Quality Control from HD.   OR LACK THERE OF!

That Really sucks Doc! For those with 07& 08 and earlier models. But thanks for the heads up😵

Thanks for the heads up but it's too late.  I started hearing an exhaust leak today while out on  ride about 3 miles from home.  After this I saw this video I went and checked my bike, yep cracked right at the weld on that pipe.   Hopefully I can find someone who can TIG weld it so I don't have to spend the money on a new pipe, which is probably $600 or more by now.  Everything was tight but it cracked anyway.  Keep the good stuff coming.
