Supplementary Explanation
The nationwide tour began on January 19, 1946, the year after the end of the war, with a visit to the Showa Denko Kawasaki Factory in Kawasaki. While there were concerns about GHQ surveillance during the tour, contrary to GHQ's expectations, the Emperor was warmly welcomed everywhere, and it is said that there were times when permission for the tour was not granted. Scenes of the Emperor interacting with the people, unimaginable before and during the war, were seen throughout the country.

In 1971, he and Empress Nagako visited seven European countries, engaging in what is known as "imperial diplomacy" and dedicating themselves to promoting friendship between Japan and Europe. Later, in the United States, at a dinner hosted by President Ford, he sincerely expressed the Emperor's feelings, praising the occasion by saying, "Now the war is truly over." When foreign dignitaries and heads of state visited Japan, he achieved success through imperial diplomacy.
