Seven cryptid and skinwalker horror stories, narrated at 3 A.M. Horror stories to fall asleep to — and every one of them was told by somebody who was at work, with a form to fill in.
A veterinary pathologist who has explained forty cattle mutilations with blowflies and decomposition, and one she cannot. A trucker who timed the thing running beside him against surveyed mile markers for eleven years, and found that twenty-nine of thirty-one events went west. A bear biologist who measured an unhurried walking stride of one hundred and ninety-four centimetres in wet silt. A Basque sheepherder in Nevada who found eleven ewes stacked like cordwood, none of them eaten. A forensic podiatrist holding a cast with real human dermal ridges on an anatomically impossible foot. A weigh-in-motion sensor that logged four hundred and sixty-one night crossings, all of them uphill, none of them coming back. And a road foreman who was told, by the only man who actually knew something, not to count.
A note on the word in the title. Skinwalker is a Diné word, from a living religion, belonging to people who overwhelmingly do not want it discussed by outsiders. Nothing in this video claims to know what one is, or to represent Diné belief. The last story is about exactly that.

And I just in this moment realized that 11 is prominent in my own story, which I find even more interesting. Now I want to backtrack and see how often it appears for me personally - and why it took these stories for me to notice.
