the thing about Joel is that he's not a good person, but he's a damn good survivor

I actually like the way they handled Bill and Frank way better here than in the game. Sure, his short-lived banter with Ellie will be missed, but I am absolutely not at all complaining about what we got instead.

49:00 i love how this scene flips the trope commonly seen in disaster/zombie movies, its usually the trigger happy military wanting to start bombing but hearing it come from a professor with the general looking horrified was a really nice touch.

Fun fact, this show was filmed in Alberta, Canada and parts were filmed in my city. When they are riding the horse later in the show before they get Elle to the lab they actually are riding through my college campus. I saw them filming that day, it was so cool.

I just love all the background stuff in the first episode, the coughing in class, trouble on the radio, the avoidance of things with wheat by coincidence, so sweet

I don't think any of you pointed it out or noticed, but I love the detail that Frank, an older gay man who lived through the HIV/AIDS crisis that defined the 1980s, would designate 80s music as "trouble" or "danger". It's such a cool detail!

4:30:49 Joel is carrying Ellie just like he carried Sarah all those years ago, except this time he's got a gun hidden under her hospital gown to make sure if anyone gets in their way, it won't happen again. One of my favorite details about this moment, sad as it is.

In the game, when someone turns infected they're still alive and feel everything that's happening. Like when you hit them with a melee weapon they'll back up and plead for a second then snap back into their "zombie mode" until they're dead. After a couple years when they turn into stalkers, all the "human" parts of the brain die

There are people who are torn by what Joel did.

Then there are parents lol

9:40 Arguing shelf life is actually super valid when you're in an apocalyptic setting 😂

And the fact that they never ate the cookies, pancakes, or birthday cake that day probably saved them from getting infected, because they didn't eat any potentially tainted flour

Looks like the largest animal that's affected by the cordyceps is a tarantula currently. The deer thing is something different. Looks like we're safe a little bit longer at least

Kathleen "Kids die Henry, they die all the time."

A few minutes later: Proceeds to be torn apart and eaten by kid Clicker.

All the decision in the first episode is what kept them alive skipping the pancakes, not having the cookies (cus they’re ass) and forgetting the cake.

As someone with a health science bachelors, biomedical science masters, and soon to start medical school, I really think Ellie would've died for nothing had Joel left her in that hospital

In the game, Joel fell off a high up ledge onto rebar. They made the change with the broken bat to make the situation more believable that he could survive.

It’s so crazy to think about how with Bill and Frank, they lived in a world where them getting married was never legal so imagine them getting married in the apocalypse after 20 years, where in real time it’s legal for us but they just assumed it never would be, it’s nice to know they got married but it’s unfortunate it was never legal in there time

I love that they gave Ashley the role of Ellie's mom in the show. She gave birth to Ellie in the game by voicing her, and now in the tv she gives birth to her again. The perfect way to end one era, and make for the rise of another.

2:22:34 sign language is actually really cool! It has a completely different syntax than English, meaning that the order of words is different from how we would speak. A lot of schools are actually starting to offer it as a language class, and you can get a really good understanding of it and the Deaf community!

I just want to add that the “zombie deer” isn’t caused by fungus, it’s from Chronic Wasting Disease which is caused from prions.

I’d like to say as a queer black woman, I really appreciate your channel. I love react channels and the jokes you make don’t go unnoticed. They make me feel safe here. Even the fact that you have a heartstopper react made me irrationally happy. I’m sure some people complain about the jokes that reveal political opinions. But I’m grateful. Thank you.
