Call me entitled but I would tell my husband we either move to Australia or we get divorced.

"Somehow, that dream moved to Australia, and Americans are still standing in the dark wondering where it went." That "dream" also "moved" to Europe, especially Scandinavia. The Americans continue fumbling in the dark try to catch it. LOL

Dear American employees and company bastards, just try and get your head around this. And Australian companies STILL make a profit. Just HOW BADLY are you being ripped off ❓
Every Australian employee is ENTITLED by law to the following conditions (not some bullshit ”benefits “). These are minimum legally enforced entitlements:
-11 paid public holidays every year.
-Minimum of 4 weeks paid annual leave every year (shift work is often 6 weeks).
-Minimum of ten days paid sick leave each year and it accumulates.
-2 days paid bereavement leave each year.
-Three months paid long service leave after ten years service.
-Parental paid leave of up to 12 months for BOTH parents.
-paid carers/personal/compassionate/family/domestic violence/community leave.
-$25 per hour minimum hourly rate plus night shift penalty (after 6pm) and weekend penalty of time and a half Saturday and double time on Sunday. This rate is set annually by an independent tribunal.
-Casual employees get a 25% loading as they don’t get annual leave.
Lastly and this will blow your minds, every employee gets their superannuation ENTITLEMENT of 11% ( and it goes UP every year by 1/2%) of their hourly earnings paid into their personally chosen superannuation company and it’s paid for by the employer and paid EVERY month (we know that trick of using our money for your purposes for 12 months). If not paid it becomes a debt to the Tax Office and is subject to penalties.
Also ALL personal protective equipment is supplied by the employer. Clothes, face masks, caps, steelcap boots, helmets, glasses, sunglasses, sunscreen, wet weather gear etc, etc.
Terminating someone is very difficult and a specialist court is proactive and ensures workers are treated properly.
Join a union and fight people. We did and still do every single day. It works. It creates a better society for you and your children and critically their future. That is all that matters.
Not one of these entitlements were gifted by an employer. Not one. Every one was hard fought for.
Step up and fight! It is not an easy path. It is hard and long and difficult with sacrifices at every turn. But by God a man is worthy of his hire. The profiteering class will use every opportunity to bury you, but when you stand in unison, the workers united will never be defeated. Your choice every day is “will I choose to get trodden on yet again or this time will I fight”. Your call.
Your responsibility. Your daily decisions. Your children will either be proud or another generation of downtrodden slaves.
Again, your call. Act now.

How is it socialist to require employers to pay thei staff a decent wage?
@tonytaskforce3465 9 months ago
The US has the most unequal distribution of wealth of any advanced country on the planet. Nothing that would pass for healthcare or social welfare anywhere else either. The place is a shambles.
@patrickporter1864 9 months ago
The tipping culture in the USA began when the railroads wanted to give jobs to blacks but did not want to incur the wrath of racists whites for employing them. They allowed the blacks to work on the trains as porter dependent on tips from the people they served. This spread to other service jobs as well especially restaurant as employers recognised a good thing.

German here. We have up to 6 weeks (30 days) payed vacation, plus around 10 public holidays and also 6 weeks of payed sickleave, were you are still being payed by you company, but only 80% of your usual income.
If the 6 weeks are over and your are still not well enough to work, the public health insurance kicks in and pays you.

100% true. Australians actively hate tipping culture. Workers are paid a living wage. However taxes are high and rent can be exorbitant so one can exist/survive but not necessarily get rich.

Are Americans on holiday truly this clueless/disbelieving when receiving their pay or our work laws or insistance on tipping? I would have thought they’d be relieved, happy not to worry about what tip to give. If they’re working here they should have been informed by the interviewer - or they should have asked questions about work entitlements, leave and pay rates & etc…it’s not as though they just stepped off the plane for a holiday.
I’ve lived in the US working in our Embassy on a posting, and discovered that many waiters can get rather aggressive - or at least pushy when it comes to tipping - especially if you under tip or don’t tip. At home I’d only tip if the waiter had gone out of his way to help me.
I once had an argument with a waiter because I didnt tip. The service itself was terrible, dismissive, and the food was overcooked and which arrived looking sad - the vegetables had just given up the will to look recognisable. He actually caught up with me on the street wanting to know why I didn’t tip. After a long and busy day at work, I was tired and just wanted to go home and rest, so I must admit I was short with him and brutally honest. I probably fulfilled his belief that all English people are rude and uncaring! This was in Washington DC - you’d think they would be used to foreigners who have varying attitudes about service standards.😂😊

AU$28 is about US$16.65 on today’s exchange rate. Most travellers can’t do an instant exchange rate calculation in their heads. I have to use an app. The backpacker is only US$1.65 ahead, but still more than his job back home.

4:42 ...congratulation...propaganda and brainwashing worked fine for the last 100 years...! 😰👎

Stories about Aussies not taking tips when offered is bullshit. If they deserve and it gets offered, why would they knock it back in today's economy. Of course, too much offered may get the customer chased down the street to give them that "too much" back.

Yeah... there's a measure of BS in this narrative...I'm an Australian but travelled the world in my youth and was familiar with tipping practices...after I returned it was not unusual to eat out nor was it unusual to tip and I never ever had one refused or returned...even staying at some of the best hotels there are provisions for tipping when signing the restaurant or room service tab...😂 So yeah...just feelgood BS. AUZZI isn't all that unique. 😊
