It's always an honor to get invited to perform at SUFTP Boston. Matt initially emailed me for a 7minute set, but come the day of the show, Candi let me know that I was getting at least 10 minutes so I had to improvise a bit past my originally planned ending.
This was a really fun show. I felt relaxed, created a few jokes/crowd work opportunities when I arrived, and had a great time. One important note - have a friend ensure you're centered and in-frame for your recordings. I would have filmed horizontally but the color of the lights was messing with the video so I had to shoot in portrait, and because of the shape of the space/where the audience sits you can't really put a camera in the center of the room. Every mistake is a learning opportunity!
This was a lot of newer material. I'm pretty happy with it, but am always looking to improve my writing, make stories more succinct, improve the flow and wording, stuff like that. One big criticism of myself I have is that I tend to lean too much on "rule of 3" jokes/punchlines and I don't often (or ever?) do callbacks, so I want to try to write future material with that in mind. I'm still very much working on getting into the flow of my set and being grounded and present in the "now" as it were, so that even if I'm working through material, my brain has the bandwidth to connect related (or seemingly unrelated) ideas and go on tangents. To put it more simply, being able to get into flow state where my sets turn more into conversations that include my material, and less anchoring myself firmly and fully into ONLY my material.
Every mic I find myself getting better, so thanks for joining me for this one, and I hope to have more for my adoring fans coming soon!
