Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of China continues with a video in which we discuss how China became so big. China’s modern borders encompass not only the Han Chinese heartland but also vast territories of Tibetans, Uyghurs, and Mongolians. How did these diverse regions become part of the Chinese state? This video explores the rise of the Qing Dynasty and its sweeping conquests across Inner Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. We begin with the historic struggle between sedentary China and the nomadic peoples of the steppe, before following the Manchu-led Qing as they forged an empire three times larger than that of the Ming. From the wars against the Chahar and Dzungar Mongols, to the incorporation of Tibet under Qing rule, and the brutal conquest of Xinjiang with the genocide of the Dzungars, this episode reveals how China’s imperial expansion reshaped the map of Asia. We also examine how the Qing managed a vast multicultural empire, balancing diplomacy, local autonomy, and demographic change, while setting the stage for the ethnic tensions that remain in modern China.

I find it quite odd that the Han (202 BC - 220 AD) and Tang (618 - 907 AD) dynasties far western conquests were not even mentioned. Sure, China did not hold on to these territories permanently, but China did administer the far western regions for centuries gaining local knowledge and of course facilitating trade on the Silk Road.

The Tang Dynasty at its peak controlled up to Afghanistan and lands bordering Persia. They even fought the newly arisen muslim armies in 751 but were brutally betrayed by their turkic allies. The Tang dynasty is highly misunderstood and was highly militaristic in nature and controlled Manchuria, Mongolia, Central Asia, Parts of Korea for a brief period of time. It represented the new zenith after the Han Dynasty in all aspects. The Tang Dynasty put more emphasis on the silk road by moving inlands across Central Asia.

The Ming Dynasty likewise had controlled Manchuria until Nurhaci revolted and was far weaker due to multiple internal rebellions occurring at the same time. The Ming at its peak was rich and was able to send multiple trade expeditions across Southeast Asia and along the African Coastline. The Ming put more emphasis on sea trade and coastal cities due to trading in Silver with the Spanish and also the wars with Japanese pirates and protecting their Korean ally. The Koreans would deem themselves the successor to the Ming after they had collapsed to the Qing but were also then subjugated after being invaded multiple times.

Parts of the video was pure poetry, thank you for that. But the part with "the chinese wall can be seen from space" is widely discussed, but mostly rejected. It was a wide spread discussion, solved by nasa, which wrote several times, that you cannot see it. Eugene Cernan and Ed Lu claimed, that you can see the great wall, but only from the lower part of low earth orbit and only under very favorable conditions. Technically you can see the great wall of course, because nowadays you can use satellites. But that then would mean, you can include most of the surface of earth into "can be seen from space".
Still: thank you. I am looking forward to more videos.

When a non-chinese dynasty conquered China, it brought its lands with it. When it was replaced by another dynasty, the lands stayed, becoming a part of China. That simple!

Uyghurs did not appear into Xinjiang until until 700AD, where Xinjiang was already claimed by the Han Chinese around the time of Julius Caesar.

It didn't mentioned when Han Dynasty conquered and controlled Xinjiang since 60 BC long before Uyghurs from central Asia migrated to the region attracted by the economic activity of the Silk Road estabilished by the Han Dynasty.
Or when Tang Dynasty's territory even extended into half of modern Kazakhstan.
