I remember having so much pride after winning the rumble, before remembering how bad Johnny was. I got this tight feeling in my chest as I dragged Pony to the stilen car to see him. I knew Johnny would want to see Pony. When we got to the hospital, seeing Johnny so pained felt like it physically hurt me. With how tight my hands were clenched, I was sure I would bleed from my nails digging into my skin. I didn't though. Hearing his voice, all raspy from the fire, made my eyes feel weird. I know now that I felt like I was gonna cry, but I rarely cried so I forgot how it felt to actually cry. The way he paused between words, mixed with the raspiness of his voice, made me panic alone. When he called Pony over, I could barely hear what he said. All I remember was the numbness I felt when he went limp. He looked so at peace. In a way, I felt upset with myself. I never had him feel that at peace when I was there. I didn't stop him from going in the fire. I didn't get to help him out fast enough. I was filled with dread and I wanted to cry but couldn't let anything out. All I did was cover my sadness with anger as I always did. I had gotten used to doing that, so I felt like I couldn't stop it. I got so upset I just stormed out, already planning a way to end it. There were several ideas in my head by then. I could drive to Bucks and hang myself, I could climb pn a building and jump off, and there were a few others I can't remember. All those options were too obvious. I couldn't have people know it was on purpose. Thats why I decided to point my unloaded heater at the policemen. I went into the store, debating if Johnny would want me to do this. By the time I was pointing the heater at the cashier, I had forgotten the fact Johnny would've wanted me to live longer and be happier. All I wanted is to see him again. While raising the gun, before the policemen shot at me, I remembered Pony. Pony needed me. I was a role model to him too. Pony didn't deserve to see so much death around him. He already blamed himself for his parents death, and probably Johnnys too. He probably blamed himself just as much as I did. Before I could drop the gun and run, I heard the shots. I felt the bullets. I tried to yell to Pony, but before I could everything went black. It was silent. Every good thing passed through my head. Being at the lot and smoking with Johnny as we talked, joking ariund and getting drunk with Two Bit, helping Darry watch the gang, fighting with Shepard, being around the gang overall, I couldn't help but feel guilt for being so terrible. I was a terrible man to every good person around me. I felt some guilt for leaving everyone, but I knew it was for the best. I wanted to see Johnny, and that meant leaving the gang. I wish I had realized that before raising that fucking gun.
