What is Oda trying to tell us with the strange Blackbeard cover page from One Piece Chapter 1194?

Blackbeard rarely appears on cover pages, but this time Oda gave us something that looks far more important than a simple gag. Blackbeard is practicing Japanese kanji while struggling to write correctly, with a monkey master forcing him to repeat his mistakes. Around him are several unfinished characters that may contain hidden clues about Blackbeard, his Devil Fruit, his dream, Rocks D. Xebec, Dragon, Loki, the Ancient Weapons, and possibly his ultimate plan against the World Government.

In this One Piece theory, we're going through the strange writing on the Chapter 1194 cover page and connecting it to some of the biggest mysteries surrounding Blackbeard.

The first major clue is the parallel with Zoro.

The room Blackbeard is sitting in appears to parallel the room Zoro was shown in back in Chapter 481. Zoro was also practicing Japanese writing, and unlike Blackbeard, he eventually managed to correctly write the character for "Sword." His failed attempts can still be seen behind him.

That parallel becomes even more interesting when we consider what Oda has shown about the thoughts of the Straw Hats. Zoro is associated with Strength and Sword, while Luffy is associated with Meat and King. On Blackbeard's cover, the character that stands out is connected to Darkness.

Since Blackbeard possesses the Darkness Fruit, the unfinished Darkness character could potentially symbolize something about his relationship with his Devil Fruit and whether he has truly mastered its power.

But the cover page contains even more suspicious characters.

We can identify references connected to Black, Sea, King, Darkness, Shadow, Ghost and Dragon. Some of these may simply be wordplay, but when placed together with Blackbeard's history, they create a much larger pattern.

The Sea and King references are particularly interesting because Blackbeard's dream has always involved becoming a King, much like Rocks D. Xebec. The theory explores whether the writing could be pointing toward Blackbeard's ambition to become the King of the world rather than simply pursuing the title of Pirate King.

Then we get into the Ancient Weapons.

Luffy and the Straw Hats already know the locations of two Ancient Weapons: Poseidon on Fish-Man Island and Pluton in Wano. Caribou was present when critical information about these weapons was revealed, and he later desperately wanted to meet Blackbeard because he claimed to possess extremely important information.

Another mysterious kanji appears to connect to Shadow, while another may represent Ghost or Phantom. That immediately brings Gecko Moria and Perona into the picture.
Blackbeard captured Moria on Hachinosu, and Perona attempted to rescue him during Garp's attack. The theory asks whether Moria's connection to the Shadows of Thriller Bark, the Rocks Pirates, and Blackbeard's own Darkness could be more important than it initially appeared.

Blackbeard has repeatedly targeted people and locations associated with the Rocks Pirates and God Valley. Whitebeard, Ace, Garp, Ochoku, and Hachinosu all become part of this larger pattern.

Could Blackbeard be intentionally following the path his father started?

Then comes one of the strangest clues on the entire cover page: the Dragon kanji and the monkey.

The theory proposes a possible connection to Monkey D. Dragon, especially considering Blackbeard's interest in the Revolutionary Army. His crew has already been spying on the Revolutionaries, and Blackbeard previously sent his forces to attack their headquarters.

So was Dragon himself part of the target?

If Blackbeard is collecting unusual and powerful Devil Fruits, Dragon's mysterious power could be extremely valuable. The theory also explores the possibility that Dragon's Devil Fruit is connected to wind.

And this is where the Ark Maxim enters the picture.

In Skypiea, Enel's Ark Maxim was capable of flight and devastating attacks. The ship relied on lightning and wind-related power to function, and the theory connects this to the larger imagery found in the Harley text.

There are also possible connections between Nidhogg, Dragon, Loki and the Ark Maxim.

Rocks visited Elbaph multiple times and had a relationship with Harald. If Rocks understood the Harley text and knew about the powers associated with Elbaph, could he have been searching for the components necessary to build or recreate a weapon similar to the Ark Maxim?

This would explain another huge part of the theory: why Blackbeard may be interested in Loki.

If Blackbeard is following Rocks' dream, Loki could potentially become an important piece of his future plan. The theory explores the possibility that Blackbeard could target both Loki and Dragon in order to acquire the powers needed to create an overwhelming weapon capable of challenging Imu and the World Government.
