Quite possibly the most underestimated Car Museum in Europe, the MAUTO is a true discovery when it comes to Automotive history and learning where it all started.
Even better if the museum curator decides to organize a full-on exhibition with the 23 legendary Formula 1 cars titled “I Nemici del Drake – Enzo Ferrari e le Scuderie Inglesi”, highlighting the rivalry between Ferrari and the British teams from the late 1950s through the late 1980s.
From the rear-engined revolution of the Cooper T51, through the Lotus revolution, the arrival of ground-effect cars, six-wheel experimentation and the turbo era, this exhibition tells the story of how the small British “garagisti” challenged Ferrari and changed Formula 1 forever.
With the titanic help of Cosworth and their 3.0L V8 dominance.

After the Formula 1 exhibition, I walked through the rest of MAUTO's permanent collection, covering more than a century of automotive history. The museum currently houses over 200 original cars from around 80 different manufacturers, ranging from early automobiles and steam-powered vehicles to racing cars, prototypes, Italian classics and major examples of automotive design landmarks.
You'll see cars from FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, Abarth, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Jaguar, Peugeout, Citroën, Ford and a few American ones too.
