This video and several others leave out what's probably the most important thing for people new to this - how the yarn is tensioned so that it doesn't just keep falling off or sliding down the index finger. I understand for someone who's mastered this, it's become second nature and might be overlooked, but it's literally the key that unlocks this for learners.

Dear, that's where I learned flicking after over 43 years continental style. I'm German but I wanted to be faster, specially in purling. Not to have to change the hand I knit with I learned this from Staci from Very Pink Knit, too, and I'm happy I did.  Continental while flicking I do fair isle knitting. Then it's fine I first learned the other way. Be lessed!

I am french speaking from Montreal, Quebec. I learned knitting at primary school and as listening your tuto, I didn’t know the name that way was name but it 60 years that I knit your way and it’s fast! Thank because when I looked the other video I tought I was not O.K.! Now, I will continue instead of try to change "a good recipe "!! Take care!

I was surprised to find another flicker who holds the yarn that way rather than wrapping it the reverse way like Very Pink! I also learned from her tutorial, but somehow the yarn got in the way because I dont have her great long fingers! So I sort of adapted the old way and tension and wrap the yarn like your method! Hey..it works for me! Thanks for the great video!

Nice information, but you didn't show us how you have the working yarn wrapped for good tension.

I have really tried doing this a few times but found my current project makes “learning” so much easier! I am just making a simple girls summer hat from worsted cotton yarn. I think my circular needles are a US7 So attempting this technique is much easier than other times I’ve tried this! It certainly DOES save time and is FUN! Thanks so much for making this video!😊

This is how I knit and always have done. I was taught it by my mum. Interestingly the flicking method on Very Pink is slightly different - Stacey holds her working yarn so it goes the opposite way around the right forefinger - I can't knit like that for the life of me! Can't do Continental or Traditional English either. But yes this technique is fast and much easier on the hands - good for preventing RPS.

I put a straight needle under my right arm  and that kneedle keeps still the left hand kneedle, with the stitches on is the only one moving and I flick the wool, if I knit when I'm traveling on a train I've had people comment on how fast I knit but it just comes natural to me I've been knitting since I was 5 and I'm 66 now

This technique is really old.
A famous passage in William Howitt’s 1838 The Rural Life of England, describing how Dalespeople knitted, meaning how faster. The movement wad called "swaving", in the beginning.  Later, it would be  called commonly “strikin’ t’loop”. Basically, if you strike t’loop of your knitting in a well-judged way – you knit fast.

All this time, their knitting goes on with unremitting speed.

I just watched this video. I was also watching very pink knits.  She has the yarn come over her finger from back to front. Yours goes from front to back.
